United To Pay Back ₤12 Million For Mikel?

The transfer of John Obi Mikel to Chelsea was one of the most controversial in recent years, and it appears it isn't over yet!

Mikel signed for manchester United from Lyn Oslo, but suddenly changed his mind, in the end we were paid ₤12 million by Chelsea and Mikel then signed for the London club whilst United forfeited any claim to his signature.

Now a court case in Norway against ex-Lyn Oslo Director Morgan Anderson, could mean we'd lose out on the player AND the money.

Lyn Oslo claim they owned Mikel's rights, while Chelsea insist a private agreement had been agreed that would send the Nigerian wonderkid to Stamford Bridge.

Anderson is accused of forging the player's contract and if a guilty verdict is reached, the prosecution could attempt to cancel the settlement reached between the two Premiership rivals, leaving us with a ₤12 million bill to pay.

A guilty verdict would lay the blame flatly at Anderson's door, so why should we have to pay back this money?

because - when something is stolen it must be returned... i can't see any problem with it.. sure , we didn't steal it, but chelsea did pay that money based on an agreement which turned out to be a "fraud" ( if that0s the expression )...
I never considered that money of much importance tbh...we've missed out on a great player and not so great person imo...it's not that we miss him though

I'm just wondering about international law. Even if a court decides the settlement should be repaid, how are they going to enforce it from another country? Do we have any law experts here? :p

Chelski paid out the money on a ruling by EUFA/FIFA as I recall, no - we keep it.

United had player signed with the full cooperation of Lynn - if there were any discrepancies elesewhere, its nothing to do with United. Everything we did was above board and legal, unlike Chelski Mafia.

We don't want him back, he's an incredibly dirty player and gets sent off too often for my liking. We got 12 mill for him anyway and that partly paid for Carrick who had a great first season and helped us to the title :)

I would prefer Mikel to Carrick, Carrick's a better passer but thats it, everything else goes in Mikels favour and he's 6years younger!

I dare say that Mikkel would have improved had he come to United instead of Chelski. That said, we had the better deal considering that we won back the Premiership.

Anyway, we should keep the money because if Lyn really did own Mikel, his transfer to us should then be considered as valid. Does this mean that if we return the 12 million, he is returned to us? Either way, not a bad deal!

I can't believe you said that. Mikel is rubbish. He gets/should get sent off most games and he dives everygame. Carrick is a lot better then him.

Anyway, Mikels number is 12 for a reason, so every Man utd suporter can laugh and say £12 Million. :D
