I've participated in a few of these in other threads and had a blast. Some of you forum hoppers may have seen something similar before.

Basically, the idea is some form of story, scenario, etc. and each player acts out a character role. I've participated in games from various settings including detective, military, mafia, etc.

One detailed example of a game I was in: Everyone is on an island doing scientific/medical research stuff on a new virus. Unfortunately, the virus has broke out on the island and they have to either escape the island alive, or find a cure. The virus turns the person into a zombie-like creature and the players are trying to find the cure. One player starts already infected. His/her goal is to infect the other players, while the other players' goal is to obviously either find a cure or escape.

Anyway, if people are interested in playing (obviously this is a role playing game), I'll set one up based on a theme voted by the interested parties (poll probably).

The number of players really doesn't matter - obviously the more the better, but it could be played with I would say as little as 4 people (excluding myself). This game will require players to be active to keep the game moving as the game can't progress unless the players make it :)

Is this the sort of thing where its like this?

1st person = A man wnt to the house....
2nd person = There was no one there....
3rd person = So I helped him break in....
4th person = The alarm didn't go off...

Or am I completly wrong?

Not really K! It would be more like...

PrinceZane: Day 1: Here's some background information and what's going on at the moment.

Player1: <background information on their character>. Picks first action (Look around the room, go talk to <player>, etc.)

Player2: same as above

...etc until every that wants to action has. Then...

PrinceZane: <Goes into detail about each person's action and what happens> Player1 decides to look around the room and notices there is a few quid under the bed. - junk like that.

Also, every player would be participating only from their character. Discussion outside the game is frowned upon, could spoil surprises, etc. Use "real life" common sense also - if you're not in the same general area as someone, you can't talk to them unless you have a phone or something. - I'll go over rules and stuff like that in more detail if people are interested. Another way to look at it - you're characters in a book doing their "actions", I'm the narrator that keeps it all moving forward/ties everything together.

Mrs SR and myself like rollplay games, in fact...only last night we....

......Well, don't think we'll go there...

....think i'll save this for when the nightclub opens.

Not sure i want to take part in anything where players are on an island and get a virus though, sounds a bit too much like living in Merseydive to me. :D

... you guys have to realize that was a hypothetical example of a past game I played. I don't even know what the story would be, I'm just curious if anyone would be interested before I put the thought into coming up with stuff :P
