I'd prefer Adebayor be injured for several games, but i wouldn't wish that type of injury for anyone, even a Loserpool player.

Hope the guy recovers enough to play again. It reminded me a lot of the Cisse break when he was playing for the Pile v Blackburn about 4-5 years ago. Gross!

It looked worse than Smudgers to be fair Siti.

The only one I have seen that was much worse was when David Busst's leg virtually snapped right off at OT about 10 years ago.. I was there that day. Schmeichs threw up in the back of his goal !!

I feel sorry for Eduardo.

Wanger said after the game Taylor shouldnt be allowed to play again. Former ArsE player Sebastian Larsson replied saying this shows only how bad loser that grumpy old man is. He also refered to the FA cup game between us and ArsE when they were going after Nani. He added that the ArsE players were very unsportsmanlike.

Wenger complains too much. Yes, its understandable that he is angry at what happened to Eduardo, but to say Martin Taylor should never be allowed to play again amongst other things is going too far. If he had done it deliberate, maybe he'd have a point.

I have seen some stills, and one allegedly shows Taylor grinning. But, to my mind, its a grimmace. I suppose people see what they want to see. If it was premeditated, he should have played his last game this season, if accidental ..... ?

This really hard on the young lad just as he was settling into the Premier league and bagging a few goals for himself.

I hope he recovers soon and gets back to full fitness so he can once again have no impact on matches between United and Arsenal, haha....

Get well soon Eduardo. :)

Arsene Wenger was rather harsh about taylor saying he should never play
football again etc etc ...

But tonight he made a statement to say he was wrong for what he said ...

So this is good news he did this ...

He said:

"I feel that my comments about Martin Taylor were excessive. I said what I did in
the heat of the moment.

"It was a highly emotional afternoon and we were all shocked by the injury."

Agreed... I dont have many reasons to say well done to Wenger, but on this occasion he admitted he was wrong and overreacted and that takes a big man to do that so well done to him.

I think Wenger has since retracted his comments about a life time ban for Taylor. He was interviewed just after the game, with emotions still running high. The challenge was horrendous and sickening to see. I've seen it in real time and in slow motion, and it really does look like it could be really serious for Eduardo's career. I hope he comes back from this and that he career is not affected. As for Taylor, I don't know about a life time ban but I think he needs a severe punishment. Good luck to Eduardo.

I think that if it were proved to be intentional instead of one of those "not yet warmed up" tackles, then yes, but unless it can be proved malicious, then no.

I think it would be a bit harsh to ban taylor for life.

There have been so many 2 footed, studs showing tackles this year that havnt be dealt with in the proper way. It was just a matter of time before something like this happened.

I have to agree with Wenger on this one.. He shouldn't be banned for 2 years at least. Not for that foul but to protect other noble players by sending a message. SAF often likes to say that the refs should protect Ronaldo. Well this is one way of protecting them. However , I don't think Taylor ment to hurt him, but with his ban others would think 2 before sliding uncautiosly towards others. This could have happened to Nani last week. Let's stop that brutality

I feel sorry for both Eduardo and Taylor in this.
It was such a nasty break very like the david Busst one all those years ago.
Hopefully it wont ruin his career and he can get back playing to the same level again. We shouldnt wish these injuries on ANY player no matter who they play for.

I do feel sorry for Taylor as well. It will tarnish his reputation and will take him a while to get over the mental aspect of doing so much damage to a fellow pro. By all accounts he is a good lad and didnt set out to hurt Eduardo.
He just got outwitted at the start of the game and was far too slow.
I do believe it was an accident and I hope Eduardo gets back playing as soon as he can.

whose fault was it ? eduardo's ??? as i've said it before - the ban should send a message. You can't play like that !! You need to protect Ronaldo, Nani and others who play skillful football with ball in their feet. imagine if someone did that to ronaldo . we would all be united in our convicteon of the incident. there are a lot of malicious tackles being performed game in game out especially in england. just look at flamini or j.cole on ronaldo. this should send them a warning . so for me - 2 years ban - . you will see these srt of things happen abroad very rearly imo.i think the "bone crunching" expression has been established here - it should end here. if that had happend in different circumstances - i would have accepted it was clumsy and stuff, but c'mon he was nowhere near the ball and there are a lot of tackles like that being performed every day on here

Eduardo has come out and said he does not blame taylor and that it was one of those things. He said he will come back and become the player he was and that he will work hard. Eduardo seems like a good lad and we all hope he gets better soon. He celebrates his 25th birthday on monday.

That's not entirely true Jazz( the Taylor part ) . Those were hear-say sources. Bilic was a guest on our national TV last night and he said that he'd heard from Eduardo a couple of times. He even said that Eduardo had called him the morning after to apologise for not remembering the subject of their conversation just after the operation. That's how good that man is . I still can't believe it - but I expect him in full training proces in December...
there - i've read it moments ago in dudu's official statement when asked if taylor had visited him he replied - as much as i remember - no . and they asked him would he forgive him if the guy apologised - he answered -" of course, that's life ". The nurses who spoke only to our newspapers confirmed that Taylor came to the hospital after the op. had been finished, but they said - After seeing the pictures, the hosptial just slammed the door to that idiot !

eduardo could have lost his foot -

The Arsenal striker is recovering from emergency surgery after a sickening tackle from Birmingham defender Martin Taylor in Saturday's Premier League match at St Andrews.

Osteopath and physiotherapist Tim Allardyce revealed that any delay in attending to such an injury would likely result in amputation.

He said on BBC Radio Five Live: "You can lose the foot, simple as. Once the foot dislocates like that, it can badly damage the blood vessels and it's very, very serious.

"The foot needs to be relocated immediately or almost immediately to save it and emergency surgery is completely necessary."

Allardyce warned Croatia international Eduardo he faces a long road back to fitness and fears he may never fully recover.

"Imagine your worst ankle sprain and make it about 10 times worse and you're getting close to where Eduardo is," said Allardyce.

"He could be out for several months. We'd expect a normal person to be out for about six months.

"With the level of fitness he'll need to get back to, it could be anywhere around the nine months mark."

He added: "Potentially, the bones will heal but there's all the other damage around the area, such as the ligament damage, the tendon damage, the soft tissue damage, the damage to the joint capsule.

"He's going to have to do an awful lot of work to regain full mobility and strength to the ankle to get him up to the standard of playing international football. Whether he can do that or not, I'm not sure."

Even if Eduardo makes a complete physical recovery, Allardyce is also concerned about any lasting psychological trauma.

"Once you've sustained such a serious injury, you'll always tend to be aware of it before you regain full strength and confidence," he said.

"It will have a big psychological effect, certainly for the next year, maybe for several months after that."

I hope that Eduardo gets well soon and back to the soccer field where he belongs.

Having read some of the discussion regarding this matter on the Arsenal forum, I'm also of the opinion that it doesn't matter even if the intention wasn't meant to cripple the opponent or not - it has no place on the field of play. Should a mugger be let off on the similar reasoning that he did not intend to fire his gun even though his victim was mortally wounded?

It's therefore appalling to read one of the posts here implying that Eduardo was just "too quick for Taylor." Would it have been okay if Nani, Tevez or any of our players were similarly injured through such crude challenges???

I've no doubt that Taylor didn't mean for his tackle to cause the damage it did but his punishment should be more than the measly 3-match suspension. I'm all for much harsher punishments, e.g. 12 months suspension, if it weeds out the would-be thugs from the true artistes in our game.

Interpreted retrospectively, the attempted tackle by Flamini or Hoyte on Nani during the FA Cup match would have seen them being sent off. After all, even Ronaldo was sent off for a two-footed tackle during a derby match a couple of seasons ago.

It's one of the worst injuries I have ever seen. It looked like the guys foot had fallen off.

Smudger's was bad but the injury was hidden under his sock whereas with this one the sock was torn away and you could see the bone.

A really sickening and shocking injury. I hope Eduardo makes a full recovery, however long it takes.

you are talkin pure ***** mate, honestly!! i can see how biased you might be toward all this but its a physical game, tackles are mistimed and accidents happen!!

EVEN IF IT WAS INTENTIONAL as Keane on Halland and Thatcher on Mendes they still wouldn even get a 2 year ban!!!!!!!

fact of the matter is it was an genuine accident and thats that! iv seen worse mistimed tackles which resulted in no injury which got yellow cards!

if every player feared they'd be banned for 2 years then no1 would ever try to tackle and football would turn into a ***** sport!

get over it!

And by the way Colin Healy suffered a much worse injury when playing for Sunderland due to a horrific tackle (im sure Jazz or some1 will say who made the tackle but i think it was a coventry player). Mick McCarthy then strangely re broke healy's leg in taining... he never played at a decent standard again!! he plays in ireland now i think! there were no calls for the offenders head in that case

what does it have to do with it now !? the times have changed ! I said I thought it might have been too harsh for me to say that - but for Keano's tackle - 1-3 year ban - depends on a seriousness of an injury ! We're talking about crazy people who are dangerous for a footballing community ! whenever the're's intention - ban the idiot ! Football shouldn't be like that ! J. Cole - a 6 months ban for that tackle on Ronaldo ! Flamini - the same ! So think 2 before doing something stupid ! End of !

but how do you seperate the intentional from the accidental? and does the outcome (ie extent of injury) hinge on severity of the punishment dished out.. cos i dont think it should! nor do i think this could work! i really think people would be too afraid to make any tackles!!

if it's intentional it should go to court for assault, what ben thatcher did last year was crazy! if he did that on the street he would've been locked up!

It is indeed hard to differentiate between intent and accident; too fine a line that is not visible to the naked eyes.

In this unfortunate case, chances of it being an accident rather than intent is deemed higher. Why? Because of the number of minutes on the pitch for both teams. Probably the same reason why Wenger pondered and then withdrew his earlier harsh statement.

In any case, we should all sincerely wish him well and a speedy recovery, as good sports should.

The translation of Eduardo's interview for Jutarnji List:

I don't blame Taylor, that's how life is". I feel well, unlike yesterday when the pain was horrible, I feel no pain today. I'm sorry I didn't answer anyone's calls, but the pain was unbearable.

How did you feel in the moment of the tragic tackle by Martin Taylor?

I was very afraid when I saw my leg...

You saw the "torn off" part of the body?

I was only afraid in the very first moment., later, in the hospital, I was only nervous. I felt the uncertainty of how it will all end, I didn't know the details about the injury.

Is it all more clear to you now?

I still don't know if only one or both of the bones are broken.

Ten reporters and three television companies from Croatia went to London on Sunday morning. You haven't closed the door shut as you were ordered by the Arsenal spokeswoman?

After I heard that all of Croatia is worried about my football future, I had to make contact. I want to thank the Croatian FA, the staff, the team mates who called me and were worried about my career. I thank the reporters, the fans and everyone who's given me support on the Internet.

You're back in London?

The transport from Birmingham to London went well. I'll stay in a London hospital for a couple of weeks and then they'll let me go to Zagreb. I'll recuperate gradually there...

Did Martin Taylor visit you or called you to apologize?

As far as I remember, he didn't stop by.

Would you accept his apology for such a brutal tackle?

Of course I would, that's life, I don't blame him. These things happen in football.
This will be a "black" birthday. We're not going to celebrate, but I'm happy I have my family with me and everyone's support.

Everyone in Brazil knows about your injury?

Yes, and they're all shocked.

Everyone's worried about your career.

I'm the only one who's not worried, I'm convinced I'll be back and will be as good as I was.

You spoke to the NT manager

Of course, he gave me his support. I saw my daughter Lorena, I definitely feel better now. I don't know when I'll be back and I don't know when I'll be playing football again. But, I will play.

that is the sort of attitude that will help him recover to his best if he can play again..
when you hear people saying it is the end of their career and its isnt in the end, they end up being less than haf the player they were

It doesnt seem as bad as initially thought, which is good news for him.

Arsenal hope Croatian striker Eduardo will make a full recovery from his horrific leg break in nine months.
The 25-year-old suffered a fractured left fibula and an open dislocation of his left ankle in a challenge with Birmingham's Martin Taylor on Saturday.

Well I am pleased for the lad, no one likes to see footballers get bad injuries like that but i still feel that Taylors tackle was mistimed rather than cynical get well soon Eduardo then the reds can give you and your team another good lesson in football

An official statement on Arsenal’s website confirms that striker Eduardo da Silva will make a full recovery from his horrific leg break and could be back playing football in nine months.

The Brazil-born Croatia international suffered a terrible leg break after a mis-timed tackle by Martin Taylor in the third minute of Arsenal’s Saturday Premier League clash with Birmingham at St Andrews.

Immediately after the game a heated Arsene Wenger strongly condemned Taylor and voiced his fears that Eduardo’s career could be over.

However, since then the Frenchman’s opinion has cooled, and the news that his summer signing has been given a rough estimate of making a return to football in nine months by surgeons and club medics must be soothing to the manager, player and fans.

The statement said: "The club can confirm that following the incident during Saturday's match at Birmingham City, Eduardo has fractured his left fibula and sustained an open dislocation of his ankle joint in the same leg.

"He was immediately taken to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent surgery on Saturday evening. The operation was successful and Eduardo was transferred to a London-based hospital on Sunday afternoon.

"Earlier today (Monday, 25th February), the orthopaedic surgeon and Arsenal medical staff assessed the extent of the damage and possible time-scale for a full recovery.

"All being well, Eduardo will have his leg in plaster and using crutches for the next six to eight weeks. After that time, partial weight-bearing exercises will be scheduled into a slow rehabilitation process.

"It is hoped that Eduardo will be running again in six months' time and making a full recovery after nine months."
