Following last week's FA Cup defeat to Portsmouth,
Sir Alex Ferguson launched a verbal assault on referee's
chief Keith Hackett for giving United the same referee's
away from home time and time again. So he won't be
best pleased with the appointment of Phil Dowd for
today's game against Derby at Pride Park.
Fergie had said: You look at the referees we get away
from home like Steve Bennett, Mark Clattenburg and
Phil Dowd," he blasted following United's FA Cup exit
to Portsmouth last Saturday.
"We never get them at home, always away from home
and that tells you everything about him (Hackett)."
Dowd hasn't refereed a United game since the loss
at West Ham in December 2006. He officiated two other
United games that year (both away games!), when we
beat Watford and lost 4-3 to Blackburn Rovers.
Steve Bennett and Mark Clattenburg last officiated at Old
Trafford in December 2005, but have refereed nine and
six United away games respectively.
Keith Hackett really needs to sort out this favouritism.
