Manchester United's on-loan striker Henrik Larsson has been told by his Swedish club he can stay at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

Larsson, 35, who scored on his United debut in Sunday's FA Cup win over Aston Villa, signed from Helsingborg on a three-month loan deal this month.

But Helsingborg chairman Sten-Inge Fredin would allow Larsson to stay on.

"If he wants to stay then we'll open that discussion with United. We will not stand in his way," said Fredin.

Former Celtic and Barcelona striker Larsson, however, is refusing to consider his future with United - having only just made his debut.

"It is all ifs and I am just taking one match at a time at the moment," he told the Times newspaper.

How funny is that? The lad just played one game and his club already reports he can stay till the end of the season if he wants to. No problem for me, let him stay but why can he stay? Dont they need them or can they use the money? Does anyone know?

Henrik Larsson has revealed that he would like to stay at Manchester United for the rest of the season. The striker's loan spell at Old Trafford will finish on 12th March, and he is then set to return to Helsingborgs for the start of the Swedish domestic season. However, Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly wants to keep Larsson for as long as possible following his impressive start to life at United. And Larsson insists he would be happy to extend his stay with United if Helsingborgs agree. "I have come to help United as much as I can up until March," he explained. "Naturally I would like to stay 'til the end of the season but that depends on Helsingborgs and I can't interfere with that."
