I like what I like. But what I like changes. There are bands who I thought were superb when I was younger now I cannot stand them.
Music today is practically none existent. Funeral dirges by people with no voice or a banging crashing noise where chords are meaningless drivel compounded by nauseating screaming and they call it music!!! Girls wail into microphones with a word that lasts 25 seconds and is repeated every 10 seconds.
Listen to perfection - listen to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton etc. Listen to the chords, listen to clarity, listen to perfection.

How can you list Ozzie Osbourne amongst these ...
And then claim he is clarity and perfection, lmao ...
He took enough drugs in his lifetime to sink ships !!!
Now he can barely talk ... he just about walks ... well shuffles anyway !

you like to twist every word I utter don't you? Where do I mention singing?
All I said was music, listen to the chords!
My wife knows Ozzie very well actually and she says that he is one of the nicest blokes you could ever meet, and he is very apologetic about his earlier years, telling people never to touch drugs.

Ooooh you're getting very temperamental these days ...
You also said "Listen to Black Sabbath" - which I did - and unfortunately they did sing.
Ozzie Osbourne is a druggie !
As is Maradonna ...
Maradonna doesn't exist in your eyes because of the drugs - and yet you hero worship Ozzie and he is exactly the same as Maradonna - druggie.
Listen to Rhianna ... ;)
Beautiful voice and no drugs ... :)

Rhianna? Who? Never heard if it/them/her?
Dire Straits sing, Eric sings, they all do. I was actually talking about the guitar playing of those bands, brilliant, clear, not a crashing "noise".
Listen to Laguna sunrise - Black Sabbath or The Thrill of It All.

I picked those two to demonstrate the variety of their work. The first is instrumental, the second is rock - but you have to listen to all of it through as it starts slow(ish) then builds up.
Get Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits CD - its their best ever one one of my fav discs.

Just to clear a point..Ozzie Osbourne alone is NOT Black Sabbath.
Anyway Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Moody Blues,Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, BB King, Rory Gallagher ( good choice hag ), Janis Joplin.
Also like tons of classical, Blues, some Jazz and Some Country.

Country Western can be good, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash!!!
My parents went to Kris Kristofferson concert recently, they won't shut up about how good he is!!!!
Lord won't you buy me a Mercedez Benz RD :o she has a unique voice, I'll give her that!!! One or two tapes of her around the house....don't listen to them though.
To answer the thread topic:
When you are young I think you mostly listen to whatever is 'in' at that time or whatever your 'peers' and friends listen to.
I liked American bands such as Blink 182, Sum 41 and Bowling for Soup when I was younger....
Blink 182 are still 'ok' but the rest I think anyway are crap!!!
Now I listen to Cat Stevens, Paul Simon, Van Morrison is good, some Arctic Monkeys.....
I listen to all-sorts, mostly on youtube, I don't have one category I stick to.
Why listen to just one genre or type of music I ask, it doesn't mean you're loyal or a rebel, It just means you're missing out on lots of great music!!!!
Keano!

Ah, my dad loves rory gallagher's work...
RD,
I disagree with you in saying that music has become talentless and just "noise." I think what has really happened is that organizations such as MTV have literally turned our ears away from the "classic stuff." And i think it is disappointing as well...
When you sit down to a bob dylan album, its like you are reading a book. Nowadays, I think the development of songs has plummeted exponentially... It is a business - Let's see how fast we can conjure up an album and see how much money we can rake in!
There are still quality musicians out there RD... They are just hidin a lil bit :) Look up some of Brett Dennen and Jack Johnson (two separate artists) stuff.
Cheers

Agree about Dylan - was listening to his 115th Dream today - its brilliant. For those not in the know; he is a sailor on Capt Ahabs ship, they spot some land and decide to call it America. Buying the place with beads, go into town, exploding kitchens, queers, coppers, jail, "french" girls; goes back to the ship, heads out into the bay, sees 3 ships heading his way he asks the captain what his name is and how come he didnt drive a truck, He said it was columbus and I just said good luck!!

nice post Brock...Rory Gallagher was possibly the best guitarist that ever lived.
Jimi hendrix was once asked what it was like to be the best guitarist in the world
he replied, ask the young playin in Donegal (meaning Rory).
Its a shame that so many of the greats die young.

We all have our own tastes RD, I'm mainly a trance fan, it's
actually the biggest scene in the world, the biggest ever
audience for a Trance DJ stands at over 2 billion. Not bad eh? ;)
I'm only 22 and already I'm hating all the generic crap that's
released into the charts these days, so I understand where
you're coming from. But Trance is not generic, it's original
and when you go to see a live DJ it's a brilliant experience.
I went to see Steve Angello and Axwell at Sankeys in
Manchester last year and they were two of the best nights
of my life!
