Haggler made this thread ...

http://www.manutdtalk.com/forums/man-utd-chat/8565-dont-see-papers-do-you.html

Not many read it I guess and not many commented either - however it is the best
one we have had in a while because it highlights how lucky we are - and others
sometimes are not !!

I suggested in the thread that we could maybe link up with a charity on this
forum - and see if we can help them out in any way ...

Rather than just saying "OK we will do this......."

I feel it better to ask everyones views on this ....

Tell me if you think it is a good idea or not ...

I'll add a poll too ... :)

Don't just vote yes or no ...

Try and give us some ideas and plans on how to tackle this - or not - as the case
may be

Yeah it sounds like a real good idea imo...Man United does heaps for charity and us fans should also take that example! Good work Haggler and Carly :)

Yea! Why not?

If this means that a particular charity will be earning some needed money and we are growing in size then everybodys a winner surely!

I think its a great idea personally. What charity did you have in mind?

This could be a huge leap for ManUtd Talks future standing.

100% behind it! ;)

I dont say the idea is a bad one but why not start doing something by yourselves and not rely on someone else!?

carly you must be a nice person always putting others into your thoughts its good idea so go for it. There many good charities out there id sway mainly to charietys that support children or cancer victims all of which need our help. Ive noticed people offering advertisment on the site so maybe some free ads or links would help.;) ;) ;) ;) ;

I sponsor a child in South America to give an education and some toys. I also give money for a childrens village in Africa.

Sponsor a child you too. Its only £20/month and you can do it online.

I am more interested in choosing a charity that deals with children ...

Does it have to be UK ...

I would like it to go to some of the poor little children stuck in orphanages in my
country - Romania - despite the Government PROMISNG they would sort this
problem out !!!!

Child Sponsorship is a good way to be involved in this kind of thing ...

There is another set of guys doing so much good work too ...

I come from Zizin in Trannsylvania and here's what they did in my area :)

I think it would be a great idea if this forum were linked to a charity.
Whenyouwishuponastar mentioned by haggler is great and i would back
that choice as i already donate to that. ( along with a few others).

I totally agree with Carly about choosing a charity that deals with children,
and agree that it doesn't have to be a UK based Charity.
There are millions of children suffering and dying every year around the world.

Having friends who are closely involved in UNICEF i get to know some of
the horrific things that happen to children and as a parent it really hurts.

I think UNICEF would be more suitable because it gives aid to children
worldwide wherever it is needed.
http://www.unicef.org/

I think if it was an International Charity rather than just one country more
members/visitors would be more interested/ inclined to help.

So far ...

We have 3 charities mentioned ...

I would like anyone who has a charity in mind to leave the name and link for it on
this thread - then we will have a poll on it ... :)

Sal with UNICEF - they provide care and help for childen in peril all around the
world.

Me with The Cleaford Christian Trust - they send so much cash, supplies,
equipment, medicines etc etc to my country - we appreciate it too.

Me again with FAST = Fundatia pentru Asistenta Sociala le Tinoret = The
Foundation For Social Assistance and Youth ... :)

These guys build houses for the Roma communities of Tarlungeni and Zizin. As well as providing help and safety for the children who are victims of
abuse ...

Dont forget the charity haggler said in the first place.
Whenyouwishuponastar.

UNICEF also send monetary aid, supplies,
equipment, medicines, build houses, send
hospital equipment/staff, provide rescue aid,
provide aid to children who are the victims of abuse,
rape, murder, mass slaughter, genocide,
famine, drought, floods etc to every country in
the world.

I'm not promoting UNICEF (could be any recognised International Charity)
but i feel it should be an International Charity helping children worldwide rather than just one country.

For both humanity reason and exposure of this forum, I am fully in support of this wonderful idea of Carly.:)

However, I am adamant and feel strongly that it is most imperative the charity organisation of our choice must be an international one.

Our forum is multi-national, multi-racial and multi-religious, and every country has its poor and unfortunate. Even in US, the largest economy in the world, there are many people homeless, living in the streets, terminally ill but financially broke, abandoned orphans etc. To link our forum to any particular country's charity organisation and just benefitting that country's unfortunate is obviously not proper or fair to all members concerned. For example, I am sure Akash knows of some geniune charity organisations in India that is desperate for funds, so does RussianArmy for Russia's, Abo for Jordan's etc. The list runs endless.

In addition, the charity organisation that we are going to be eventually linked to must also be reputable and well known amongst majority of the members. Furthermore, linking up our forum with some unknown or lesser known organisations does not do much for our exposure in reality.

So in the postings so far, think UNICEF is one good candidate definitely. At least, the beneficiaries are not limited to any particular country, race or religion. Of course, it is not exclusive. Members can suggest other charity organisations but it must be international and reputable, with its beneficiaries being multi-national. Fair and square, nothing untowards or biased.:)

I have another good benefit for my guys - a last ditch attempt to get the money
for them ... :o

All these big International charities take sometimes as much as 35% of donations
of cash to pay for wages, advertising etc etc ...

100% of the money should go to the children - like my guys do ... ;)

after reading all these threads the point about this being a worldwide forum stands out so if it was a case of the forum being linked to one unicef does indeed make most sense . as i said originally post was about good things utd were doing not a tin rattle but if forum can link then why not . there are zillions of worthy causes about and individuals obviously pick ones they feel strongly about so i am not championing one over another .

if one person reading the post decides to chuck a few quid a year to help others that they may have spent on another pint or game for the console then its all gravy isnt it ? now i must post something offensive to all to keep my reputation .

United is heavily involved with UNICEF too

If so, then it is only logical that we link up with UNICEF too. MUFC supports UNICEF, so does ManUtdTalk Forum (the best forum for United fans) ... From a marketing angle, it makes perfect sense and a natural tag-on to distinguish ourselves from other United forums.

Besides, I have to reiterate that there is no yardstick to measure which group is less fortunate, more needy or in a more dire state than others. A neutral international organisation like UNICEF (for example only) would be most fair and ideal.

As for us, as long as we know we have played our part and contributed to charity, as in generic, it is good enough.

This talk of natural add ons - and of "the best marketting angle" etc etc .....

This is no good ...

I wanted to do this for the children - nobody else - just the children ... :o

We dont need to use the kids to generate traffic on our site ... ;)

I really have a problem using someone like UNICEF or Oxfam ...

They are a huge unbrella ella ellla which disguises many, many charities and good will projects.

Our link up must be to a charity obviously involved in child welfare - and if possible
ONLY CHILD WELFARE.

Which would lead us back to Hagglers first post and
the "Whenyouwishuponastar" charity organisation.

These guys seem dedicated to children - it is the main aim of their charity - to
improve the quality of life for children - and it's a magical thing to do ...

So this is my stance now, lol....

Sal is okie dokie with it if you check back ...

Doesn't the thread read "... to try and raise awareness"? But if there is nothing for the forum, why involved the whole forum in the first place? What is the purpose then? Each individual member, like your kindself, can still continue to do charity separately on their own; quietly as usual. :)

And why only children? Why not consider other unfortunate possibilities too? Does everybody else agree with this group?
