Francesco Totti admits to being bitterly disappointed at missing
Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Manchester United, but
the Roma captain has pledged to return in time for the second leg
at Old Trafford.
The Giallorossi have been deprived of their playmaker for the first
leg of the Champions League quarter final as Totti suffered a
recurrence of a thigh injury in Roma’s draw with Cagliari in Serie A
at the weekend.
He remains hopeful of making the return game in England though
and has backed his team-mates to secure a good result when
United visit the Eternal City on Tuesday.
“I would have never wanted to miss a game like this,” said Totti in
Corriere dello Sport.
“In recent periods I have not played at top condition because of
various problems, but I have had to grit my teeth to help the squad.
“Cagliari was an emergency situation and I had to be present, in
order to continue to pressure Inter.
“Now I will miss out, but I am sure that my team-mates will fight
against Manchester.
“It will be a difficult match but it will last 180 minutes. I will be there
for the return at Old Trafford.
“My hope comes from speaking with the coaches and medical staff.”
