The Prediction League 2008/2009 (Idea's & Details)

As you all know, the Prediction League will be drawing to a close in the next few
weeks as the 07/08 season is set to end.

I intend to have the league run for the whole of the 08/09 season and this thread
is to sort out what things members wish to propose I include next season, and
what should be left out.

At the moment, next seasons league will consist of the following;


A new set of rules will be drawn up
There will be a first and second division. The first division will consist of the top
ten members at the end of this seasons league and from 11 down will be the
second division along with any members who join next year
There will be a highest scorer vCash prize for each division, and the winnings
will reamin the same for everything. (See rules)
Each round will have a set number of games which stands at 5
There will be 38 Rounds in total (One for each round of Prem games. This may
stretch to 40 due to fixture changes during the season)
The games will come from the Barclays Premier League ONLY
If a member predicts all 5 games exactly, in other words score 50 points, a
bonus 50 points will be added, making a score of 100
A new banner comp will be set up for members to submit an attempted
banner for the 1st and 2nd divisions. They will go where the current one is
now. Rules of this will be posted in due course.
Reminders will be PM'd to every member who participates in the rounds
and this will inform them of the next round along with the deadline for entries
An added post will be added to show the highest scorer(s) of each round



The proposals above are not yet confirmed, but just ideas which at the moment
are the most likely to be integrated next season.

They can be altered, and others added to.

If you have another idea, or have a problem with the ones above, don't hesitate
to post, as its you who will be competing in it. Remember, any proposals are
welcome, and will be considered although, there's no guarantee that yours will be
accepted. Any which have passed the public views will be posted above, as I'll
edit it where necessary.

As ideas are posted, please clearly state above it, "IDEA", and then
comments can be made on it.

Hmm.......so you mean,

make a draw for members and each member is pitted against
eachother and they play on to a quarter, semi, final.....etc?

I was thinking about saying a cup tourny aswel.

Like randomly draw members together and whoever gets the highest score that round goes through.

I have had a thought over it and am in agreement with it.

To answer the above questions;

If scores were level, the progressor would be decided on which got the most exact results right
and the if they were still level, decide by who is positioned higher in the league table at that time

I will drop out.




I was thinking, the cup will run on a basis of Coca Cola Championship games
only. 5 games in each round with each member pitted against each other.

Each member wishing to partake will have to post their entries in a specified
thread closer to the start of the season

I will print each members name and draw them from a hat. I will do this
honestly and post the rounds. I have to ask you to trust me to draw the rounds.



Also, this is only speculation......nothing has been decided yet!

This idea has hit a wall. Unlikely at the moment. Would take a lot of work to intergrate

I see that the idea of a cup is really getting people interested.

What I'm going to do is run it over the European Championships.

However, it won't run parallel to the League next season, mainly due to the
confusion it will cause.

So I'll take the names of people who are interested at the end of thi season, for
the cup competition.

cup could just get very messy....

I think its a great idea. When its the summer we only have the season to reflect
on, the transfer merry-go-round crap to talk about and Euro 2008.....

This prediction lead should end when the season ends for 2 reasons.
1.the season is over and this would be a normal step.
2.Im currently on top so the sooner its over the better ;)

As well as it would take place during holidays..and the most important part of this League are players..and now no one knows where she/he will be..at least I don't know that. And thus we should wait with the definite decision.

and it will give you headaches calculating at the end of each gameweek.
At leat 1-5 you know the sequence of the games and the results off hand.

it would be amazing if someone could develop some sort of a flash program to input score into easily instead of writing it all down in a thread. I'd make data collection much easier to read and manage.

shoddy idea i havent thought through fully but how about at the start of the season every member predicts the top 2/3 and bottom 3.

for everyone they get correctly that member gets 5/10 points....

could be an interesting twist at the end of the season if its tight at the top;)

it would be more fun if you can go up to divison 1 after 20rounds, or get delegated to division 2 after 20 rounds.

So kinda like 1 season is the first 18 prem games.

then there are some other bonus chances i saw that you get points for voting who will land down in the league table and who will come in the first places.

if my idea is good, maybe you can solve it by every member get to choose who is currently 17-20 and 1-4 ( think it was those places ) after 18 prem rounds, then you get to choose who will come in 17-20 and 1-4 after the season has ended.
( or your voting still stands and you get points in the end of all rounds )

to only play 20 games will get some speed in it, but will also make it more fun for us losers who arent in the divison 1 ^^. ( i didnt play last year tho ;) )
