Some of you may know him as Bertie, and he's the current Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister).

Bertie Ahern

Over the last few months, he's been under investigation over money which he dealt with yet people can't understand how he obtained it.

It is claimed that he is a "fraud" and a "cheat", and has also been accused of dodging tax payments to the Revenue.

A tribunal called the Mahon Tribunal has been ongoing and it appears that the pressure has got to the man from Drumcondra.

He announced today that he will step down from office on the 6th May '08. He declared this in front of his fellow colleagues and stated during it,

'I have never done anything to corrupt my office, I know in my heart of hearts that I have done no wrong and wronged no one.'

Its quite a turn in the Irish government, as he recently battled hard with a rival, Enda Kenny to keep his position as Taoiseach in the National Election's.

Ps. K4! Your user name is in with a chance here! ;).......Will we be seeing you in the Dail? :p

Good riddance.

Hopefully the Mahon Tribunal uncover the truth and then maybe Fianna Fáil TD's will realise that corruption etc will not be tolerated.

Nah, I do take interest in politics now as I will be voting in elections, referendums etc. by this time next year.

Stupid Irish idiots voted Bertie back into government last year because they are content with their happy little existance and refuse to look at the bigger picture or the less well off in society.

Our health service is a joke, It's actually frightening, Education system is in disarray thanks to spoilt brats and little thugs in overcrowded class rooms along with teachers who have less rights than Saddam Hussein.

Bertie then gets a 38,000 euro pay rise late last year while workers like my father in the public sector got next to a pittence.

Bertie is a corrupt thug and I hope to God he loses everything.

Even worse, his daughter is an author, if you can call her that, who is in the papers every bloody day.

What a country, eh

At least now that Bertie is gone, perhaps the honest and intelligent politicians in Fianna Fáil, Brian Lenihan, Brian Cowen and Mary Harney can try and do some good for Ireland.
