ALEX FERGUSON has offered shock support and sympathy to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
Fergie, whose Manchester United side host the Gunners tomorrow, said: “Arsenal have had so many injury problems. If you don’t have your best players it is difficult to get the best result.
“But it is not just having your best players but having the best squad available, to enable you to change when you need that bit of freshness.”
Arsenal are on their knees after losing the Champions League quarter-final at Liverpool on Tuesday.
The Gunners have also thrown away a five-point lead in the league.
At each other's throats
And they go to Old Trafford six points adrift of table-topping United with five games left.
Defeat on Sunday and Arsenal will be looking at a third season without a trophy.
Fergie and Wenger have been at each other’s throats for the last decade.
But the Red Devils chief defended the Frenchman’s recent record and spending policy in the January transfer window.
Ferguson said: “It just underlines how hard it is to win the Premier League. It is not easy. It is a tough league.
“It is not easy to buy players in January — there’s not a lot you can do then.”

Fergie is absoulutly correct imo. When one want's to sign a player in January, he would like it if the player can play in all competitions and majoirty of the players are cup tied. Also Arsene did not know so many key players would be injured all at once so blaming his inactivity on the January window is for me not a valid excuse (which some gooners are usuing) - it was just the injuries imo like we had last season and we lost the CL and FA Cup. But even if they had their full fit squad we would be on top imo but it would just be a even closer battle for the title - which is healty to watch but nerve recking for us fans!!

With the way Chlesea and Man United are going I think it is safe to say Arsenal will not win the EPL unless they do beat United at OT today..which I think is safe to say is unlikely...

Fergie is loving this. He is saying he feels sorry for Wenger but he is laughing on the inside.

Right....... I am sure he does.
When we beat Arsenal today, we should have effectively ended their miserable season. And this would be the third season without a trophy for them, I think. So don't need to rub your eyes or drop your jaw if you see Fergie giving Wenger a sympathetic hug today.
:D :D :D ;)

Is it possible that after all the history, SAF is beginning to like the arrogant French so-and-so?
Can you spell G-A-M-E-S-M-A-N-S-H-I-P?

laughing too on the inside... looking from another angle, Ferguson is just rubbing salt to Wenger wounds. It sounds nice to the ear but not to the heart...

fergie shows sympathy because wenger insists on playing his brand of football, and fergie appreciates that.

Wenger deserves respect. He has done miracles during his time at Arsenal. He is a very good manager is is much sought after, all over Europe, possibly the world. He is one of only two managers that can possibly say "MY job is 100% safe".
He does tend to open his gob too much though. His comments on MOTD last night can be construed as libel. He said that "outside factors" had conspired to produce certain results, in different words though.
