He got fatigue and was asking the coach to be replaced. He told he was feeling exhausted after only 10 minutes in the first period. He have been on painkillers and shots to keep him going coz he's been struggling with knee injuries and because of this he's not been able to work out between the games. Thats why Tellqvist was playing the 3rd period.
Henrik Lundqvist had a few (3 if u ask me) soft goals which he fully fit and in shape saves. But we didnt lose because of him. We got to the semi because of him and lost the semi because Canada have a better team. Still, we gave them a battle and many was surprised how quiet the crowd was. They were not their extra player in the game last night.

I still think you are able to beat Finland today, even without Lundqvist.
But I'm sorry for Henrik, he's exceptional.
Home team hasn't won Championship since 1986, it looks like curse or something. It would be very interesting final.

Its not decided yet whether Lundqvist can/will play in todays game. I think the coach staff will keep this as a secret for us and Finland as long as possible. And I agree with you. Henrik Lundqvist is not just a great ice hockey player but he's a great guy too. Someone you're happy having this kind of success. He was definitly one of the major factors we won the Olympic Gold in Turin 06 for example.
Interesting fact about the host and the champions team. But a guess, if the WC had been held a bit more often in Canada the home team had probably won more often.:)

They said the crowd were roaring a lot before the game and during the warm up the Swedish players thought they wouldnt hear each other on the ice during the game. Throughout the game the crowd got quieter and this was just an average when it comes to the crowds. The silence a Canadian crowd at a hockey game is probably the most wonderful silence you'll hear.:D But the Canadians got the last shout :(

You are right my friend about the major hockey nations in Europe. But its more often the Championship is hosted by a nation who wont be the champion and hardly ever play about the medals even. Austria, Switzerland (who actually got to play for the medals once), Germany, Latvia, Italy and Norway. And when you got a team on a streak its very hard to win the championship on home ice.
You won it 3 years in a row a couple of years ago coz you had a great generation of players who could play. Canada now is on a streak too.
The situation for Sweden is that we're pretty much in the hands of NHL and their play off to get a Championship winning team. So if we're unlucky all of the hot Swedes are still in the playoffs in North America we're not really in best position to win the gold at home ice.
Last time we were the host I think Slovakia won the gold beating Russia in the final.
A great hockey nation as Russia havent won the Championship since 1993. During Soviet they won too many. :p

Yes, that's naked truth. And many players didn't want to play under his wings.
The next coach should/would/might/will be Vladimir Ruzicka, which is great news for us - he has no problems with older players (actually he was our appreciated captain in Nagano 98), has winning mentality and has already won Championship as a coach in Vienna 2005.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
Refrain:
O Canada, glorious and free!
We stand on guard, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
2. O Canada! Where pines and maples grow,
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow,
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!
3. O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western Sea,

I agree Law, a victory for ice hockey. No matter who your sympathy were for. I didnt think Russia was capable of doing his. Yes, Nabokov could win games for them but beating Canada in Canada. WOW!
Maybe Canada got strucked by the pressure of winning the gold at home. You got a point there with no host has been winning the Championship since 1986 (Soviet in Moscow).
Kovalchuk, what can you say about this guy. He's been close to useless throughout the whole tournament and look who won it for them. :D
Bykov as coach: Sure, he's won pretty much everything in Europe with Russia but thats the "friendly" money making tournaments with nothing incommon with a real tournament. In the final he's taking an early time out. Time outs were never taken during Tarasov and Tichonov's days. He stopped the bleeding with he time out. This move might won it for them in the end.
Sergei Fedorov: A player I thought was very much over the hill. He's been quiet the last few seasons playing for less hot teams since his glory days in Red Wings. When I saw him in the roster I tought he would be playing in 4th line but I must say, Fedorov really impressed me this tournament. He was hungry to win the Championship and he was one of the major contributors here. I may start to like even. Hahaha

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !
Oh my Belarus :(
Russia is very happy....
Belarus will qualify for the 2nd phase. Hungary will struggle. And if Koval will play like he did this tournament and a Mezin in good old shape there's always a chance for a QF.
Russia, well... now we have to fear them again. Or...maybe it'll go to their heads so it would be good to get them in a QF.:D
