Well i can't find a topic for this so i thought I'd make one.
The world championships are on now with Higgins kicking off with a win yesterday :D
So who do you think will win it this season ?

You never know which Ronnie will show up.....so if he really wanted to win it
he will. Young lads like Ding and Robertson have a good chance as do the
old boys like Higgins and Doherty.
Im up for Doherty as he lives down the road from me and my dad knows him
as he used to teach him in school. He is also a massive United fan, so here's
hoping Ken wins.

Ronnie's a legend to me!
Started to play the game because of him.
I've watched his famous break over, and over, and over, and over..........and over, and over......:o
vvv.....If you haven't seen it.....vvv......It's absolute class! ;)

^^^^nice. Ive watched that dozens of times as well and actually
saw it live on the tv. Pure class and the speed is incredible.
Im pretty confident that nobody else will ever or could ever get a break
in a quicker time. records are meant to be broken but that one wont be,
unless its by the man himself.
I too played snooker for years, down the dark, dingy snooker halls.
Loved it. Best break 60.

I'd like Stephen Hendry to win. He's my favourite.
Although, I do have around 140 vcash on Ding :D

Break of 60 is pretty good mate, used to play alot had my own table but its sort of messed up now.
I think theres only been two results so far ...
John Higgins (Sco) 10-5 Matthew Stevens (Wal)
Neil Robertson (Aus) 10-4 Nigel Bond (Eng)
My two favourite players there, Higgins is definitely my favourite i first saw him about6/7 years ago on tv playing Stephen Lee i think and i remember watching his break building, was fantastic.

This could be the most open championship for many a year. A good few players could be in with a shout and most in the bottom half. If I were betting on it, I would be going each way on Selby who has been playing some fantastic snooker lately as has Stephen Maguire. Robertson is in with a shout in that half of the draw as well.
Top half is a bit weaker (if ive read it right). Hendry hasnt played well for awhile and Higgins' form this season has been pretty poor, although that could be down to the lack of tournaments. O'Sullivan is far too hot and cold and im not sure if his head is in it.

who is Ken playing anyway
Nemanjaaa
21-04-2008, 03:58 PM
Ken Doherty (Ire) v Liang Wenbo (Chn)
Never heard of him to be honest but I've heard the chinese players are very good and have progressed conisderably.
And i agree this championship is very open, I've just been watching Hendry play Allen who was 6-3 up at one point so shows how open it is!

Oh yeah , i forget about Selby. He is having the best year or 2 of his career.
Am I right in thinking that he is the World Pool Champion?
Either this year or last year?

Hendry had an epic, some good matches already going to 9-9 this time round.
Also theres been two near misses of 147's already :o Stevens and King.

Back to the snooker........ The experience of Hendry saw him go through 10-9
in an epic as well as Ebdon going through 10-9 as well in the game of the
tournament.

I'm a big fan of snooker. I went to the LG Final in Preston a few years ago when John Higgins got a 147 against Mark Williams in the evening session. Terrific stuff.
My favourite player is Ronnie O'Sullivan. The guy is a troubled genius, a loveable rogue and a damn fine snooker player.
I couldn't pick a winner this year though. If Ronnie turns up with his head screwed on then he'll win it but that happens far too rarely for it to be a certainty. Mark Selby has been in great form this season but so have Murphy and Maguire. You never know, it could even be Ding Junhui's year.
Whoever wins, I'll be watching the entire tournament intently.

Your kidding me ?
Thought King nearly retired a while back or even a few times.
Must have been some ridiculous odds for a King win....
by the way Solsk-I remember there was a betting thread for this ages ago.
I put 100 vcash on Ding but i cant find the thread

Yep, there was a thread and I placed quite a bit of Vcash on Ding also.

Yeah i remember when Mark King did an interview and was really angry and was saying he was going to retire.
Mark Selby was about 4th/5th favourite apparently, really shocked to see him go out but to be honest it was the best snooker i've ever seen King play and he came close to a 147.

rocket ronnies on now
Nemanjaaa

Yeah the guy hes playing is a young chinese guy never seen him before looks very good though 3-3 at the moment and is in front for the 7th frame :)

The Chinese really are becoming a force in World snooker.
Doherty took a 7-2 pasting this morning and Rocket Ronnie is currently being held. Ding Junhui is a dark horse too - he could become the youngest World Champion in history if we wins this year. He'd beat Stephen Hendry's record by 2 months...but he plays Hendry in the next round!
Nemanjaaa
23-04-2008, 08:41 PM
Yes i agree, many think Ding could become the best player around, but hes had a poor season every since last year when he played ronnie and they all booed him i think and ge got pretty upset, which is understandable.
But Doherty has a massive challenge now 8-3 behind and the kid who played ronnie may be losing but controlled most of the frames so to be honest this tourney is even more open than first appeared.
Still Higgins to win :D !

Noooo the champ is out, an awful preformance and season for Higgo!
Very wide open now i think we could get a shock just like when the time Murphy won it when he was like world no. 32 !
burnzy1987
27-04-2008, 04:34 PM
sean murphy getting dumped out by ali carter was a shock to me!
murphy was the provisional numero uno!!!!
rocket ronnie made hard work of that 17 year old but he looks like a good prospect.
im supporting steven henry as i always do although i do like osullivans charisma in and around the game(having ur dad in jail for murder can't be easy either!!)
Nemanjaaa
27-04-2008, 06:15 PM
Yeah i think that Murphy, Higgins and Selby have been major shocks, especially Murphy he got wasted something like 13-4.
I think that its really open at the moment, that Luang Wenbo guy looks really good as well took control of a match with Joe Swail earlier.

What a brilliant 147 by Ronnie. The Eurosport commentator mentioned the 147 was on after the first black because of the way the balls were spread.
With Higgins and Murphy out the only threat I can see for Ronnie now is Maguire. I don't think Stephen Hendry will win it and I hope Peter Ebdon doesn't (can't stand that guy).
I was going to put a bet on Ronnie but the odds are down to 11/8 now so there isn't much point.
Nemanjaaa
29-04-2008, 01:47 PM
I think it will be Hendry, Maguire or Ronnie also.
That Wenbo guy has been good but without any experience i can't see him going any further than the quarters.

Well done Ali Carter. He admitted he was shaking like a leaf and it was noticeable on the final black but he got it in and will share the £147000 prize with Ronnie.

I was too excited to sleep last night so watched the replay of the 147 after midnight.
Hendry and Carter are through to the semi-finals and Ronnie looks certain to join them after winning his session 7-1 to hold an 11-5 lead.
Maguire v Perry is still pretty close with Maguire leading 7-5.

Everyone i like has dropped out now :(
My favourite player by far and always has been is Higgins, then the other two i like are Robertson and Maguire so when they drew each other i thought for the worst. Oh well been a very good tourney so far good very fast  Should be a fantastic semi Ronnie Vs Hendry and also Perry Vs Carter, could be a closer final than first thought as Carter/Perry have both been class this tournament.

Not a great start for Ronnie. Hendry started the match with a 140 break and has taken a 4-1 lead. First to 17 though so a long way to go yet.
Come on Ronnie!

poor ali carter....
i like rocket ronnie but i like supprting the underdog in the world snooker finals and ali carter just seems too nervous....
he keeps needing 2-3 chances to take a frame.
suppose it is his first final and its all a learning curve.
BUT if i way him...in this evening's session he should go for it...he has nothing to loose

Too easy for Ronnie.
The man is a God when he has a cue in his hand and didn't have to play anywhere near his best to destroy Carter in the final.
If Ronnie didn't have so many personal demons he would easily be the best snooker player of all time.

Interesting statement. He would have amassed many more trophies were
it not for his 'personal demons' but for me he is the best player that has ever
played the game, regardless if he goes on to win more titles than Hendry or
Davis. He was born to play and is the most naturally gifted player ever.
