In what many people are billing the game of the year,
Manchester United travel to Barcelona on Wednesday
to take on the Catalan giants in the semi final of the
Champions League.
Wayne Rooney would rather play them in the final, but
thinks that playing Chelsea or Liverpool in Moscow would
be brilliant for English football.
"To win the Champions League would be brilliant, obviously,
for ourselves and the fans but also it would commemorate
the Munich air disaster and those players," said Rooney.
"It would be a great achievement for the club and also great
for the history of the club considering it is the 50th anniversary.
"I'd rather play Barca in the final to be honest, they are a similar
team who play the way we play. I think that would be a great final.
"Barcelona are one of the best teams in the world and it is going
to be one of the best semi-finals you could want. Two entertaining
teams with some great attacking football, I'm certain.
"I'm sure it will be a great semi-final and hopefully we can beat them
and to get to the final. To play Liverpool or Chelsea will be great for
English football.
"We know that if we don't concede goals we have a good chance of
winning because we know we can score goals.
"We will have to make sure, we defend well and attack in the way we
know we can do.
"We know we have just got to try to do our job well and if we do that
then we will have a very good chance of winning."
