If you want a season ticket get on the waiting list. You are more likely to be offered the more expensive season tickets though because these tend to be the ones people don't renew.
I am a One United member. It costs between £25-30 per season to join and you get a membership pack that includes book reviewing last season, free gift, membership cards (which allows you to apply for games at OT and gain free entry to reserve games) and discounts on various things like the megastore, match programme subscription etc.
Once you are a One United member you can apply for home games and will be put into a ballot with everyone else who applies. If you are successful you get a ticket. If not successful you can still use your One United membership to join the ticket exchange (for free) where you can buy tickets from season ticket holders who can not make the game. There is an admin fee, delivery charge and credit card surcharge when buying on the exchange, which can add around £12 onto the price of the ticket but there are usually plenty of tickets available.
I applied for 12 games this season, got tickets for 6 through the ballot, 2 on the exchange and couldn't get tickets for 4 (Chelsea, Arsenal, Barca and the last home game v West Ham).
zuco's right though - If you have any questions I haven't answered then ask Stephen - he knows more about this than anyone.

redwarf expains it pretty well :D
Most homes bar the 4 (City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool) and games near the close of the season if we're still chasing for honours, have spares around. Just post up a thread for the game your after a spare for if your not sorted and you should get sorted.

.
If you buy 2 tickets off the exchange (at the same time) would the extra charges be placed on both tickets? Like would you have to pay £24 extra overall (taking the £12 above as an example) or just £12?

You can only buy one ticket per membership number from the exchange. I haven't tried it but I think you can link membership numbers if you want to buy in groups.
If the tickets are being sent to the same address then this should reduce the delivery charge, which in turn will slightly reduce the overall credit card surcharge because that's a % of the total transaction value. However, I think the admin charge is per ticket.
Btw, the delivery charge is £4.99 for special delivery so I guess it would be fixed at that.

So to get more than 1 ticket off the exchange i need more than 1 membership number? That kinda sucks as the missus has said she'd like to see a few games

Yes.
However, for most/some games there are two tickets about from others.

apart from city arsenal dippers and chelsea, there are always spares, although it might say a sell out, the amount of tickets that get sold is massive.
id go for the exchange, but that site is basically the club touting tickets for about 20quid more than fv.
they charge you a fiver for a stamp plus 15 for "booking fee"
thats gonna be your best bet though, plus you could always apply for every game via one united and if you get a ticket that you cant go to, sell it to someone on here

I'd say your best bet would be to get a One United membership. Like other people have said, most games there are tickets available in the ballot or ticket exchange service especially if you are only looking for one.
