disgrace to football and to england!
i think only gerrard or ferdinand (after this season's performance) deserve to get the captaincy. they are 2 of the most experienced in the english team and possess immense leadership qualities inspiring their teammates ard them.
terry doesn't have the correct attitude and behaviour to be a role model for pple and moreover, he can be hot headed at times, constantly arguing with the ref and sometimes even resorting to underhand means take the spitting incident for example.

I think its a good idea for Terry to be captain, after last week he will be so fired up to impress that his enthusiasm will force the other players to preform.
Not sure he should have the job permantly though.

bit disapointing if im being honest but hey its only a friendly. im sure his just looking round all the england captains before he makes his decision and giving everyone a good inspection. think we will see the captain change a lot until the world cup qualifiers begin
rio for captain tho :D had a much better season than terry and is just as passionate as terry when it comes to his clubs. but good luck to john tomorrow just dont let him take a penalty :p

I have yet to be truly impressed by JT as a captain for England though. Yes, some spirited shouts here and there, and a look of commitment. Actual impact on team performance and spirit? The necessary influence and driving force needed when the chips are down? Not so sure.
Well, in any case, JT was quoted to have lamented that if he does not get his captaincy in this game, he probably never will again. Such despondency (yet somehow a little cunningly manipulative perhaps in my opinion only) after what happened in the CL Final is hard to ignore though. Sympathy and encouragement vote by Capello I hope.
I certainly hope it is not permanent. Please don't, Capello. [Hey, it even rhymes a little, goodness me.:D ]

As disgusted i am with terry for his alleged spitting on tevez, I do feel he is one of the right choices made by capello to lead england against the U.S.A. It's only a friendly after all

WHAT! EFFIN DISGRACE!! Still don't care about England...That boy Ronaldo makes England look *****...! I have not supported England since all united players were howled at whenever they took the field for the national team.England fans consist of ****neys and fans of lower league sides.:-(

It's a clever move on Cappello's part. Terry is obviously still distraught
and things like this will give him the heart and courage to make it back
to where he was mentally.
I still wouldn't read to much into it. They are rotating captains.....
Gerrard had a go, as did Rio so it makes sense that it is Terry's turn.
The final decision will be made at a later date, so Rio is still in with a great
shout. he has been the most consistent England player this season,
and he knows what it is like to lift a trophy as captain.

The Chelsea skipper missed a crucial spot kick for his side in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United, and was forced to watch the Red Devils lift the trophy in the knowledge that it could have been him.
The usually unflappable defender was inconsolable after the Moscow showdown and could easily have let the occasion affect his forthcoming performances.
However, having persuaded Capello that he is in a fit state to feature against USA on Wednesday, he has now been lifted by the news that he will be handed the captain's armband for the first time in the Italian's reign.
Having made the bold decision, the national coach is confident that his skipper will not let him down at Wembley.
"I've spoken to him, but not about the penalty," said Capello.
"I spoke with him to know about his state of mind, his psychological state of mind. I spoke with him but it's something private between us."
Capello went on to praise Terry for having the bottle to step up in such an important game for Chelsea and believes that he will have grown stronger as a result of the experience.
"If you look back, players like (Roberto) Baggio, (Franco) Baresi are big players who have missed big penalties. If you take a penalty, it's always possible not to score," he added.
"If you stay on the bench and don't take one, it's easier not to make a mistake. I think the players and the manager are strong during the games, but the emotion is always there.
"I've shown my emotion two or three times. Not for this reason but I have cried over football. I cried once in a private situation. On the pitch I did it after my last game when saying goodbye to Milan. A good memory."
Capello is still to decide who his captain will be on a full-time basis, and has hinted that Terry may not retain the honour for the friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
"I think it's my decision," he said.
"I think we have three captains at Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea. With Arsenal, it's impossible. Three of the big four, not all four!
"Maybe I have to choose one, or possibly one other one. A different one on Sunday maybe."

7 players were let off early and didnt travel to Trinidad and Tobago.
Rio DID travel with the team...... Surely this means that he will become the
eventual captain of the team? Why would he be the only one that played in the
CL final travel with the squad? I think he will be made long term captain.
Rio deserves and he is getting quite used to lifting trophies, unlike a certain JT ;-)

Definately, he has matured a lot this last 18 months, and he leads by example better than Terry.
I don't know why but i always have two images of Rio, 1 where he just out paces then shrugs off Torres at Anfield, and another where in the Barca match in injury time he is telling his teammates to concentrate, basic I know, but thats just what comes to mind.
Iknow the press say, 'well rio has acted like an idiot in the past', but then again that highlights the meida bias against Utd, anyone remember Terry and Jodie Morris going to a bar and putting a guy in hospital for a joke?
or how about in an airport a while back where he made fun of the 9/11.
the media won't mention this, yet they will bring up Rio's missed drug test and his speeding.
