Really, how?
From what I can make out from your opening post, you don't like the way England think they've won it before it's started?
Well, it's called a whole nation of football-minded, and non-football fans suprisingly, come together to get behind the team. England, the origin of football. Football runs through everyone's veins in this country.
England have world class players. They deserve to be at a world stage like the world cup and the Euros.
How can missing a major championships to make them qualify as the worlds best players - like Rooney, Gerrard, Owen, Hargreaves, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole and the other young players - if they aren't there?
World's best players should be playing on the worlds greatest stage.

 thats cause you are a jealous irishman . the only time your lot ever did any good it was managed by an englishman and full of english players . you know that the english should win everything they enter and its only dodgy officials that stop us dominating every tournament . embrace the mother country like the other colonies:D :D

worlds best players  and they dont qualify  they are good individual but not team playing. my country has no world class player but a good team. i think this difference is what makes england lose. anyway we have good euro so far and no england so its ok.

Exactly. You are 100% right, Sian.
Rooney, Gerrard, Ferdinand are amongst the best players in the world. However, it is hard to accomodate them within a team. Especially that Lampard/Gerrard situation!
I like Romania. Hope they go through, although it would be tricky. Mutu is a class act.

adrian mutu is great player for us. he miss a penalty to make us qualify but we dont mind this. he does not do this on purpose and we have faith he will carry us past olanda in next game. if england player miss a penalty then the newspaper men give them so much heart ache and this finishes off the team altogether. this is why they have problems too.

For starters...Abo be quiet
I can see why marty started this thread cos a fellow Irishman, we take
great pleasure in watching England fail :D
But if Im honest, I was disappointed England didn't qualify....
The tournaments are much better with England involved.
we know the players and want the United lads to do well.
Id hate England to win a major a major tournament cos we would
NEVER hear the end of it  ....
but England are always good for having some epic games where they
lose out on penalties in the end :p , and THATS compulsive viewing.......
England have some class players and should really be there...but I feel they
can do well at the next World Cup...semi's or better...

Thats a shocking thing to say and so unpatriotic.....
Im still well cheesed off Ireland didnt make it.....
It doesnt have the same enjoyment for me without my country in it :(
Still not to worry though....Ireland are a shoe in to be World Champions in 2010 under Trappers :)
Let's have a look at the line-up.
James
Richards Rio Terry A. Cole
Beckham Barry Gerrard Cole
Rooney Owen
Name a bad player.
and there are a few others you could add to that too......
Bentley, Hargo, Nev, Carrick, Young, Agbonlahor, Lampard, Woodgate, Downing
goalkeepers like Green, Carson, Foster, Kirk etc...
and Im sure there are a couple more....
England have great players, they just need things like guidance and leaders,
which they seem to have in Capello, Rio and Gerrard for example...
People forget that England have been very unlucky in big tournaments...
Losing out on penalties pretty much EVERY time is just plain bad luck.....
they will do well in the future.....
Its good that you failed to qualify for the Euro's, cos it means you have
Capello now and not McLaren.....
I hate to say it but the future looks very bright for English football.

but to be fair, you can pick holes in all those teams.
The great thing about international football is that on a given day
any team can beat any other team. Teams have good days and bad days
as we have seen in these Euro's and in every other tournament that
preceeded it.

England just play boring as hell football. Never blow a team away and so we always lose on pennos.
Its like watching Chelsea and drives me mental.
Dont get me wrong, I love supporting England and the Euros arent the same without them (even opposition fans have said the tournament lacks English fans livening the place up), but we do play some shheeeee-height sometimes.

we saw this last night with Brazil getting beat and Argentina grabbing
a late equaliser with the last kick of the game.
International football is great for that.....2 of the 'best' teams in the World
cant win against lesser opposition.....its great for the game and thats why
teams like Ireland and England have a chance of winning the big tournaments :)

Like my sister said they are good individuals - but
as a team they are mediocre !! That's being
generous to be honest.
Also, as my sister said, take a look at Romania or
Turkey. Not one of them is world class, but as a
team they can give the big boys a shock for sure !!
Ask France and Italy. They expected 3 easy
points from us !!!
They got one each - and Italy should have got none !!

I think England could have done so much better in the last World Cup had they
actually had a proper manager, and the same goes for the Euro qualifiers
recently.
I would blame the clowns at the FA and certainly not the players....

Rubbish ...
Sven is a more than adequate manager !!
Still England were rubbish.
If the players dont do the job the manager has no chance !!
How many more managers have to come and go before you blame the players ?

Sven had a smokscreen of numerous quarter-finals.
McClaren couldn't manager Trinidad & Tobago. He's a club manager, and it
appears to me that its the same with Sven.
Sure the players were below par for crtin games, but if you look at the way they
were set up at times, its crazy.
Gareth Barry should clearly starty with Gerrard. Lampard is pure rubbish for
England.
Owen has lost his sparkle and its left to Rooney who has had an International dip
in form.
Scott Carson had a nightmare at Wembley against Croatia and all players are
allowed to have an off day, they're not super human.
Then theres the Becks saga where people complain that he gets played. For
God's sake, he's been at the heart of the majority of England goals of late.
Capello, seems to have everything organised and the respect of the players.
Anyway, England don't have the best manager......Ireland do! ;)
VIVA TRAPATONI!

I agree with that.
I feel that England team was good enough to progress further than the quarter-finals of the World Cup. However, Owen & Beckham getting injured, Rooney getting sent-off and losing a penalty shoot-out can not be blamed on the manager!
We were lucky to have Sven. We take qualifying for tournaments for granted in this country but, as McClaren showed, it's harder than it looks.

IMO, McClaren put an end to his successful managerial career when he left Boro.
He was doing a good job and he saw the money and ran for it....
