Newcastle - Sink Or Swim?

Kevin Keegan says Newcastle are 'a million miles' from challenging for a top four position in the Premier League - do you agree with the Magpies boss?

They are not a millions miles from this, they are an eternity!! They have no team to speak of, no tactical awareness and no manager!!! Luv it, just luv it!!

I really doubt it.

I hope they don't get relegated though, because I love those meetings with the Geordies!

To a certain extent I agree with you. I doubt any team will find it easy to
get into the top 4.
Newcastle have some very good players that they can build a team around.
Given-class keeper, one of the Prem's best.
Taylor-good young defender. Faye is solid enough as well.
Duff, Barton, Butt and Milner make up a solid midfield when they are fit.
Viduka, Martins and Owen up front. They are all great players on their day.

I believe with the fans they have, Ashley pumping in the money and Keegan
bringing a different style of play they can mount a decent season next year.
Maybe looking at a Uefa cup spot?

First thing they need to do is buy buy buy some quality defenders.

ye they are a million miles away but other teams are not. there is a huge problem within Arsenal's team. For Flamini to leave after the football they play and Wenger's faith in him and Hleb wanting to leave, I think they will strugle next year. If Tottenham get Etoo and a goalkeeper you just never know.

The Good:

Viduka, Owen, Martins. The first two are proven at the highest levels, they've bagged so many for club and country respectively. Martins is the young one but he has bags of potential.

Duff was good enough for Abramovich to give him a chance so you know he's class.

Shay Given is a vastly experienced keeper. Good hands there.

Charles N'Zogbia. He's a very good player as well, like Martins, young and has great potential.

Abdoulaye Faye: Another decent player who provides a good solid backbone to work with. Worth keeping.

The Bad:

Alan Smith. Don't get me wrong I think he's a very good striker but he's simply not a top class holding midfielder.

Actually letting Alan go was a shame, he's a different striker to what we have and we could've used him. I don't know why we tried to make him a mid anyway.

Geremi: I'm not really sure whether to put him in the good or bad section. He's a decent right back, solid, but not particularly spectacular. Worth keeping as he scores some good free kicks but not brilliant.

Jose Enrique. Hasn't shone for Newcastle but he did break into the Villareal first team at 19 so there must be potential in there but we haven't seen it. Has to decide whether he's cut out for the premier league.

The Ugly:

Joey Barton. The guy's a thug and I don't care how good people say he is. An attitude like that isn't worth keeping. Chuck him out on his sorry bum.

I clicked no.

To get into the UEFA Cup, they need to get the better of teams like Everton, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Tottenham (not a force this year but imo will really improve under Ramos) etc, which won't be easy.

Their all better than Newcastle just now, and their not exactly going to stand still during the summer are they?
