Footballers And Heart Attacks

Marc Vivien Foe playing for Cameroon, Antonio Puerta playing for Sevilla and now Ümit Özat playing for
FC Koln have all suffered heart attacks while on the pitch.

Sure heart attacks are nothing unusual, they happen to ordinary people all the time, but it seems to be
occurring more regularly in the football world. Or is it just publicised more in modern times?

Could it be something to do with all the dietary supplements players fill their bodies with these days?

Are they born with heart problems?

Should clubs do more stringent checks on the heart during medicals?

I think they should check for heart problems better. Wasn't it Thuram, who was just found to have a heart disease? Hopefully more people are discovered before its too late.

Btw, a list of players who died whilst playing:

i think they should check their players often, do alot of medical test .. that might help the players from dying on or off the pitch

I saw a documentary of this 'phenomenon' about the sudden death on the pitch for footballers.
There were no real answers because there were no complete answers but one common pattern for a couple of danish players, the hungarian Feher and some others were that all of them had been injured and all have been taking pain killers and similar pills.
Some researching scientists claim some substances in pain killers can cause heart failure when being physical active, just like what happened to the players.

And as I remember they had examination the dead men and at none of the men they could find any defects on their heart. But its a few years ago so I dont remember all details. But Im sure they could say with close to 100% certainty they had no heart problem at birth or something like that.

Thuram have said himself that what PSG call a heart disease isnt one. I dont remember what he said exactly but Thuram had an explanation for not passing PSG's medical check up.

What about FANS and heartattacks? I'm sure following United has knocked a few years off my life, especially the games against Barca in the last CL!! : )
