Are there any good, young up and coming talents that we should watch out for Miguel
So basically the Mexican League is divided into two during the span of one year. Last season, the clausura 2009 finished with Pumas Unam defeating league leaders Pachuca 3-2 on aggregate in what really was a very exciting final.
1 Pachuca 17 11 3 3 42 23 +19 36
2 Toluca 17 10 6 1 34 19 +15 36
3 UNAM 17 8 4 5 23 17 +6 28
4 Monterrey 17 7 5 5 28 22 +6 26
5 Puebla 17 7 5 5 21 24 −3 26
6 UAG 17 6 7 4 21 17 +4 25
7 Ciudad Juárez 17 5 8 4 21 22 −1 23
8 América 17 6 5 6 25 27 −2 23
9 Santos Laguna 17 5 7 5 25 20 +5 22
10 Morelia 17 5 7 5 19 20 −1 22
11 Guadalajara 17 5 6 6 21 20 +1 21
12 Chiapas 17 5 6 6 22 24 −2 21
13 Atlas 17 5 6 6 22 29 −7 21
14 Atlante 17 3 8 6 18 21 −3 17
15 San Luis 17 4 5 8 21 27 −6 17
16 UANL 17 2 8 7 15 26 −11 14
17 Necaxa 17 3 5 9 17 30 −13 14
18 Cruz Azul 17 2 7 8 26 33 −7 13
thats how the final standings finished up, with Pachuca leading the way. The champion is decided by way of playoffs, the teams qualify to the playoffs by the final standings in their respective groups, not by where they finish in the overall standings. There are three groups of 6 teams each, and the first two teams of each group qualify directly, while the two best teams that did not finish in the automatic playoff places make up the final playoff spots.
1 Pachuca (A) 17 11 3 3 42 23 +19 36
2 Monterrey (A) 17 7 5 5 28 22 +6 26
3 Puebla (A) 17 7 5 5 21 24 −3 26
4 Ciudad Juárez (A) 17 5 8 4 21 22 −1 23
5 Santos Laguna 17 5 7 5 25 20 +5 22
6 Atlante 17 3 8 6 18 21 −3 17
1 UNAM (A) 17 8 4 5 23 17 +6 28
2 UAG 17 6 7 4 21 17 +4 25
3 América 17 6 5 6 25 27 −2 23
4 Morelia 17 5 7 5 19 20 −1 22
5 Guadalajara 17 5 6 6 21 20 +1 21
6 Cruz Azul 17 2 7 8 26 33 −7 13
1 Toluca (A) 17 10 6 1 34 19 +15 36
2 Chiapas (A) 17 5 6 6 22 24 −2 21
3 Atlas 17 5 6 6 22 29 −7 21
4 San Luis 17 4 5 8 21 27 −6 17
5 UANL 17 2 8 7 15 26 −11 14
6 Necaxa 17 3 5 9 17 30 −13 14
Over the span of one year two tournaments are played, first the apertura, then the clausura, relegation is based on the percentage of points acumulated over the two seasons. This year Necaxa were relegated, while Queretaro was the team that was promoted.
Last seasons top goalscorer for the second season running was Hector Mancilla of Toluca, while the player of the season was Christian Gimenez of Pachuca.
The two finalists make the concacaf champions league, while the top three teams in the standings go to the copa libertadores, and the 4th and fifth to the sudamericana.
Are there any good, young up and coming talents that we should watch out for Miguel
What an unusual systemId never even heard of that.
Cheers for volunteering to do this thread. Let us know if there are any up and coming youngsters.
They do something similar in Argentina I think. Not sure though
Well a player I have mentioned a lot is Edgar Pacheco, he's 19 years old and scored 5 goals in his debut season from Midfield, he is already being linked with a move to Getafe. Another player is Nestor Calderon, hes 20 years old, a cracking little striker who reminds a bit of aguero, Martin Galvan of course who at 16 is already getting headlines as one for the future, he was recently linked with a possible trial to Barcelona but was unable to make the trip due to passport problems. Omar Arellano is also a good player to keep an eye on, at 22 hes a bit older than the rest of the list but he has terrific speed and very good with the ball at his feet. Ochoa has been mentioned in the forum as a possible target, hes been fantastic the last couple of seasons and is still relatively young for a goalkeeper.
Yeah its a bit like the argentine format, but far more complicated.
Cheers for that Miguel. Ochoa is supposedly quality. What a save this was
Do you go to many games and which team do you support
He is quality, no doubt the best keeper in the league. Im a season ticket holder for my Team Atlas Guadalajara, without a doubt the best youth academy in Mexico.

What is Omar Esparza like. I remember hearing good things about him a couple of years ago in the U-20 WC in Canada. I was just looking at Chivas' squad and they seem to have all the good young talent in their squad apart from Ochoa and Pacheco
Sorry for all the questions but who is the most succesful team in the History and what is the standard of the league like. Which European league would you compare it to.
Heres some news I found Mosquera moving to Club America
Official: Club America Sign Aquivaldo Mosquera From Sevilla
The Colombian defender has completed his switch to Mexico…
Sevilla have successfully off-loaded defender, Aquivaldo Mosquera to Club America for a reported fee of around €4.2 million.
The Colombian had been put on the transfer list ever since the Primera Division campaign ended as the Andalucians look to trim down and refine their squad and the club’s official website has confirmed that the sale is now complete.
Mosquera, who joined Sevilla from Pachuca just two years ago for €9 million, left a parting message for his fans of the club:
“My experience was not so bad. Unfortunately, sometimes these things happen whether you like it or not and for me, things did not go as I had expected.
“Now, I have a personal challenge and I want to continue developing my career. I am very thankful to all the fans and the people of Sevilla and in that sense, I will be sad to leave because I have always liked the city and the people.”
It is reported that the 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Club America.
Its okay mate, Im happy to answer the questions. Well the most successful team is Chivas Guadalajara, they have 11 Mexican Championships, they are known to field only Mexican players which I hate to admit it but it definitely deserves respect, they are followed by Club America who have 10 Mexican titles to their name, they are the richest club in Mexico and probably the most hated, Cuauhtemoc Blanco came out of their youth academy, Ivan Zamorano played there, Claudio Lopez played there, Oscar Ruggeri who won the world cup with Argentina in 1986 played there,Ilie Dumitrescu who played with Tottenham and West ham played there, so really they have been known to bring in top players in the past. Which in return gives us the Chivas - America Derby which is probably the biggest event in Mexican Football. I would say the standard of football is probably up to par with that of the championship, maybe a bit higher quality.
