    I gained everyones loyalty.

I think it's simply down to who I picked as team leader and tech specialist (I picked the biotic you mentioned). I've researched it and now know the better options.

Grab the first one mate, I found it much more enjoyable that the 2nd, however the 2nd is still good.

It's quite interesting seeing the differences in the storyline in ME2 depending on whether you import your ME1 character or not.

Pretty much the reason I played the ME1, well that and to understand the mass effect universe and I'm glad I did, it was great.

My Character was a Vangaurd but I think you get to change you specialisation when you port over, which I'm glad about. Lift is pretty amusing but I hardly ever used it or any of the other abilities, I just 'Jack Bower'd' It (pistol).

About half way through ME2 now and I think ME1 is much better in nearly every aspect apart from the combat mechanics which are better in ME2.

Story-wise ME 1 is easily the better of the two. I liked the more indepth RPG elements as well. It was also more daring than it's sequel when it came to the "love" scenes. Obviously that was due to the fact the media weren't aware of it, but still, credit nonetheless.

Apart from the above mentioned I feel ME 2 surpasses the original title. It also gets major love for the digital copy and participation of Yvonne Strahovski.

one of the best IP's i've played in a long time. But then I love these games with great story line element. They do so well in making you feel part of the game with Mass effect too which only adds to it.

Mafia 2 will be next on my list for cinematic games.
