1. Rio/Vidic/Brown/Evra - All have been emmense all season long.

2. VDS - Best keeper since Schmeichs and although his kicking has been suspect at times, he pulls off fantastic saves and sets up counter attacks and goal opportunities from kick outs. Very safe from set-pieces too.

3. Ronaldo - His goal scoring record speaks for itself. Wonder kid.

4. Tevez - Hardest worker and very skilfull. Good return this season.

I really really really don't believe Carrick should be mentioned on this list, every1 lashes out at me when I have a go at Carrick but he is NOT good enough for United, and I do not believe he is consistent enough, he has a couple of decent performances, so he's relatively consistent at being mediocre! As for big games against real top opposition at the highest level he is simply not good enough!! where was he against barca, or roma in the 1st leg for that matter...

Carrick would not get into or anywhere near the midfield's of Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool

On a positive note we have had some absolutely astonishingly consistent players this season.. I dont want to put any order on them cos each one has been a star!

Ronaldo.. this is one of the needs no explanation moments
Wayne Rooney.. our most important player has not been guilty of giving anything even close to less than his best this year, my favourite player a genius.
Rio.. is the best defender in every aspect necessary in the world at the moment!
Vidic.. his partner in crime is no longer the man who makes rio look good but has without doubt been immaculate again this year
Evra.. best in his position in the worls, fantastic again this year
Paul Scholes.. not quite as consistent as last year but still a big part of where we find ourselves.
Hargreaves.. I think hes had an excellent 1st season, he'll really find his place in the team next year when he's rid of injury problems.
Tevez.. AMAZING!
Anderson-son-son.. deserves a mention consistently brilliant over a few matches but his lack of experience meant he couldnt continue, we'll see this guy dominating midfield like carrick will never over the next few seasons
VDS.. never forget this man, he all of a sudden had a problem with his left footed clearances as of late (something iv never sen in him before) .. but overall immaculate this season!
Brown.. of course has really shown how good he is.. i think Gary will be relieved of captaincy duties next season thanks to this guy!

A bit harsh Scott in my opinion.

He came back from a long term injury and was lacking match fitness at first and was a bit rusty but he has played well in the last few games and against Barca he was superb, in both legs.

Carrick has been inconsistent. He was poor in both legs against Barca and went missing in many a league game this season.

I'm not saying if their good or bad. Scholes has been fantastic against Fulham, Barca and Liverpool. I though he was poor against Tottenham away, Arsenal home and Pompy at home by his standards. Someone like Giggs has been consistently poor imo.

Carrick has been a bit off the boil in the last couple of games, but over the seaon he hasn't been exceptional or poor, about a 7 out of 10 performance each game. To re-iterate, I'm not saying the inconsistent players are worse. I'm judging them by their standards.

great topic, i think the games in which ronaldo usually scores a goal or two early, he is usually brilliant for a while and then goes a little more quiet but i think him scoring these goals settles the nerves and gives confidence to players around him.

Also for thos who have said ronaldo is NOT consistant must be having a laugh, his last two seasons speak for themselve, no explanations needed.

Anyway my top 5 would be:

1- rio/ronaldo - joint first, rio gives us confidence about being strong and keeping clean sheets and ronaldo gives us confidence to play attacking football and for players to express themselves. 40 goals for ronaldo aswell as him inspiring those around him = genius...while in rio we have the best defender in the world imo

2- Evra - Roberto Carlos must have been a big influence on this guy because he is just awesome and plays amazing for most of the season

3 - Vidic - Really improved as an individual defender this year. Last year with Rio they formed a great partnership but Rio was visibily the commanding figure, now rio has enough confidence in Vidic to take the lead in certain situations because vidic has come on loads as a player.

4 - Wes Brown - I think for a guy to have played the whole season at right back and stayed fit, hardly missed any games at all and made nevilles injury look like something which wasnt missed at all (great back 4 this year) speaks volumes about how well he has played.

5 - VDS - I think he has games where he looks very shaky and then games were he looks amazing but he always seems to pull off amazing saves when he plays and whilst he hasnt been fit the whole season, for the big part he played, he has put in some great saves and performances.

I did not put the likes of tevez/rooney/anderson in because i think all have had periods when they were great and then extremely quiet...Tevez scores some vital goals and works abnormally hard but in terms of consistancy he has been poor too...Rooney gets injured and then it seems to take him a while to get back into groove...and then when he finds some form..injured again,lol...needs to work on his finishing aswell....Anderson looks great when he plays with hargo or as the third midfielder but he has periods when he looks amazing and times when he is quiet...he is very young and its his first season in the league also so plenty of time for improvement! A pre-season break and then training will be great for the kid!

1. Rio ferdinand (Soild defence throughout the whole season, his presence was already enough.)

2. Evra (Best leftback at the moment, can't really think of anyone better.)

3. Ronaldo (Most skillfull player of the season, 40 goals for a winger??? How can anyone miss him out.)

4. Teves (Superd work rate and crucial goals assured him at least a place among the top 5.)

5. Brown (Unlike the past, hardly done anything wrong, deserved to be the most improved player of United)
