I'm just going on last season's form, Rio's a little inconsistent for my taste. Mexès is a wall, all the time.

Rio was a rock ALL SEASON. He played a major part in
the defence that conceded fewer goals than any other.

Rio used to be inconsistent and prone to mistakes but
over the last two seasons he hasn't put a foot wrong.
He reads the game well, he's good in the air, he's good
with the ball at his feet and he's a fantastic leader.

As for Mexez, he was certainly a wall for Roma when we
put seven past them wasn't he? He wouldn't even make
my top five.

Rio, Vidic, Carvalho, Nesta, Terry, are all far better than him.

His national coach doesn't ever think he's good enough for a
place in the squad!!

Yeah Mexes and Gallas are world class too...it would be hard to chose an overall whos the best especially since they all have different styles like Vidic and Rio but judging on last season's performance and at the moment Rio and Vidic have it tied at first spot for me

Rio is the best...and he has no match..him and Vida provide Man Utd the best pair center defenders this world can offer....they are the best in my opinion and they've showed it by what they've achieved....the only one that could be close to them...would be Nesta from Milan...but...Rio & Vida....make the best from the best....what am i say'n...we are the best..and we'll stay like this

Rio was the most consistent player in the entire Premier League imo.
Even more consistent than Ronaldo, as in continually playing to a very high
level each game. There were barely any mistakes at all last season.
Mexes is good but he's not that good. As Zuco said, he would have made it into
a crappy French squad for the Euro's had he been this 'wall'.

I reckon he is. He has it all for me: pace, tackling, compusure, height,
leadership, quality, silky skills, determination and he has lifted the CL.

Who would be up there with him?
Say maybe a top 3 or top 5.

I can't choose between him and Vida, but I'd say Vida. The guy is perfect without any "dark moments " we 've seen from Rio
