Rio has everything you'd want in a centre-back.

He's tall, agile, quick, comfortable with the ball at his feet, reads the game well, times his tackles superbly and seems to have got over the lapses in concentration that made his position as a top class defender questionable.

He's also ideal captain material - for club and country - and someone would have to come up with a very persuasive argument for me to say that he is currently not the best centre-back in the World.

Rio is not the best, but could be.

The best CH I ever saw was Stam.

I agree with sparkic "at the moment Rio and Vidic have it tied at first spot for me".

They both compliment eachother perfectly and I think Vidic is getting less praise than he deserves.

I think they're both tied as the #1 CB in the world, even from an unbiased point of view.

EH?

Dont you think they've done as little to their teams since both were trophyless

Great Point there mate..
Rio goes up against the best players in the world week in and week out and comes out on top.
I have not seen a better defensive pairing than him for a long time..

with the ball at his feet and he's a fantastic leader.

As for Mexez, he was certainly a wall for Roma when we
put seven past them wasn't he? He wouldn't even make
my top five.

Rio, Vidic, Carvalho, Nesta, Terry, are all far better than him.

His national coach doesn't ever think he's good enough for a
place in the squad!!

Mexez better than Rio: Officially the funniest thing I've heard this week.
What part about LAST SEASON'S FORM don't you understand?

7-1 was 06/07, last season was 07/08 so you can sod off, and as far as the French national team goes, its the 2nd biggest joke there is in Europe, next to England's national team. Rio is great, but there are times when he just seems to get bored and starts to lose focus, I wouldn't take Mexes over Rio because the Vidic-Ferdinand partnership is greater than the sum of its parts but individually I think Mexes has him by a nose.
