    Denis Irwin
After watching Johan's video about Dennis Irwin, I felt compelled to start a thread about one of the greatest players ever to grace Old Trafford. The consummate professional but also a very good footballer who chipped in with his fair share of goals. I seriously believe he was the prototype for the likes of Evra, Cole and Lahm as a marauding full-back.

Could play left-back or right-back, took frees and penalties, hardly ever got booked and stayed away from the limelight. He would always get into my all-time United team without a doubt.

I'd rate him over Evra as he could score goals and take free kicks.
Lahm and him are very similar.
Ferguson said Denis was one of those players that came in, gave you a 9 out of 10 performance and then went home to the family. Then he'd come in and do it all again next week. He called him a terrific little player who never let us down.

Totally agreed with the above posts but would go further and say he's the best full back ever to play for united- certainly in my time as I wasnt around to see Tony Dunne or Roger Byrne.
i can honesty say he never had a bad game for united and not just saying this cause I'm Irish -wonderful pro and similar to scholes a quiet family man who let his football do the talking

Lahm is great but he just got his reputation destroyed by Torres in the Euros in the same way Vida's rep was destroyed

i remember many people rated him allot before the 08 euro final and after BOoM no one rates him anymore and stuff like "he can't defend" started to get talked about even more

By the way im not exagerrating when I say he never had a bad game-Fergie said so himself and the mistakes were so few and far between Fergie even remembered them -I think arsenal circa 2002 he was at fault for a goal but that is about it

Denis Irwin is a legend, most people know days support United because of Keano and how great he was, but Irwin was ten times better than him in my opinion, the reason i started supporting United was beacuse of Irwin a true United and Irish legend

Great player. I don't think he's as talented as say Evra, but his consistancy was amazing.
