I'll go for 30 exactly in the Prem, 1 in the Carling Cup, and another 3 in the Champions League, added to the 1 he got the Community Shield, which brings a total of 35.

He wont get to 40 thats for sure, but I can see him hitting the 30 mark, all this talk about him not offering the team much, well what the **** is he supposed to do when he doesnt have a striking partner that can effectively stay in the box and help him track back, he is a second striker playing target man basically.

I wouldn't swap him for any other striker at the moment, on his current form he's the best in the World IMO.

We should start a poll to see how many goals you think Rooney will score this season.

    I reckon about 30.

I'd definately say he is capable of getting 30 if his form continues. Especially if we hit a bit of form and start tonking people. (A nice away win at the Emirates might kick start that )

Rooney has better numbers game than Ronaldo - Soccer, Sport - Independent.ie

Stats can never do justice to Wayne Rooney's brilliance because he's the ultimate team player, sometimes too selfless.

He tracks back and tackles, creates and scores. He's even kept goal at the end of England training, just messing about and saved a good few shots.

But here are some cheeky little numbers to stir into the Rooney v Cristiano Ronaldo debate.

Rooney's spree against Hull City took him to 84 Premier League goals for Manchester United, equalling Ronaldo's United total but achieved far more quickly (179 appearances to the Portuguese's 196) and mainly without the boost of penalties and free-kicks.

And here's a treat for lovers of sporting stats and symmetry: a goal for Rooney against Arsenal on Sunday will bring up his Premier League century. This includes his 15 with Everton, the first of which came against Arsenal. And one more amazing figure: 24, his age.

Rooney's best years are yet to come. Injuries permitting.

The problem with Rooney has been that he can go on fantastic scoring run and follow it up with a horrible run of not scoring any goals.

I've been delighted with Rooney this year and in recent weeks has looked unstoppable. Has matured so much and we are reaping the rewards with the number of goals he has scored. Thank feck I dont need to watch him constantly picking the ball up from the back four anymore, mind you some folk are still pineing for the "old rooney".

    21 and counting.

Asides from the goal, what you think of his pass to Giggs that led to Scholes' goal?
Stunning! world class. A gif would be savage if anyone could oblige.

what do you think of nani's pass that led to carrick's goal...class eh ?

    Ferguson salutes 'fantastic' Rooney
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Wayne Rooney as "world class" after his stoppage-time goal sent Manchester United into next month's Carling Cup final.

The all-Mancunian semi-final was heading for extra time until Rooney popped up to nod home his 21st goal of the season to secure a 3-1 win and complete a 4-3 aggregate triumph over Manchester City.

It might not have been as individual a triumph as his four-goal salvo against Hull on Saturday. But for Ferguson, Rooney's performance was even better.

"It was much better than Saturday," Ferguson said of his number one striker, who played up front on his own.

"I know he scored four goals but tonight his control leading the line and his link-up play was fantastic. Overall it was a wonderful performance - world class."

After an even first period, United turned the screw in the second half to secure a February 28 Wembley date with Aston Villa.

Michael Carrick set up Paul Scholes for their opener, then Carrick profited from Darren Fletcher's lay-off to put United on the brink of their seventh League Cup final during Ferguson's time in charge.

But, with new signing Chris Smalling watching on from the directors' box, Rooney missed a glorious chance to wrap up victory, leaving Carlos Tevez's effort straight afterwards to lock the contest up heading towards the final whistle.

However, the hosts refused to be denied, even after Shay Given had produced a brilliant save to deny Fletcher, who Ferguson claimed had "two engines" because of his selfless running in a man-of-the-match display.

Giggs' fateful cross came from the resulting corner, allowing Rooney to confirm hero status and deny City their first Wembley cup final since 1981.

"I know with our deliveries I will get chances and thankfully I took that one in injury time," said Rooney.

For City, it was a chastening experience and one which left manager Roberto Mancini feeling as though he had been mugged.

"After our goal I did not think it was possible for us to lose," he claimed.

"I am very disappointed because, apart from 10 minutes, we played very well.

"But next time we will have to pay more attention because Wayne Rooney is one of the best strikers in the world. If you give him a chance to score he will take it."

Mancini refused to be downcast though, insisting City will emerge as a stronger force because of tonight's disappointment.

"Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor are back with us now and Joleon Lescott is nearly fit," he said.

"With those players I think it is possible for us to get into the top four.

"But it is important that we improve because of this game and at least we still have the FA Cup to play for."
of course roo's world class..has been in years by his overall ability

Rooney's 24, three or four years ago he would have been twenty. thirty goals a season Striker's generally peak during their late 20s. Rooney's a phenomenon, 179 appearances & 84 goals that's quite amazing only comparable to the likes of Ronaldo and Messi. It's scary to think hes already on 21 goals & 6 assists, **** me Roo's world class in overall abillity and on paper

rooney's been around since he was 16 thats 8 years ,we've known for years he is a great player but this will be the first great goal haul . if you don't think a world class striker should net 30 goals per season you can't have followed football for long mate , the very best will be gutted if they don't score that many ,rooney is as good has the very best and should have scored more goals in past seasons and he would tell you that himself .

I think he could get 35-40. Every game we play I think he can score, he's been getting himself in ridiculously good positions. He could actually have a lot more this season.

I think he'll score against Arsenal this week.

I said 30 as I don't want to jinx the chap! He won't outscore Ronaldo but this will probably be the most prolific season of his career.
