Who is in your Utd starting 11?

We've had close to 6 months to judge our current squad of players so I want to know what starting 11 you would like to see playing consistently? The majority of the team picks itself, but there are some areas of the pitch where members have contrasting opinions i.e. Rooney's strike partner, the left wing and right back positions.

    Here is my starting 11:

    Van der Sar

    Rafael Rio Vidic Evra

    Valencia Fletcher Anderson Giggs

    Berbatov Rooney

Players such as Evans, Nani and Scholes are great back up players to have in reserve.

I wouldnt start giggs in left since his legs are gone. I rather put Nani on left.

Maybe but Giggs still has the ability to supply a quality cross from time to time e.g The winning goal against City. Nani is improving but he seems to play better on the right wing, Valencia might prove to be a stumbling block for him.

    Owen>Berba

I don't think we'll be seeing Hargreaves for the rest of this season. I love the ginja ninja, he's to be kept for special occasions/big matches like the City game. I want to see Ando play 10 games in a row, I'll be able to judge him accurately then.

If we were playing Hull at home would we play 3 CM's?

    By my sense Owen>Berba?
Berbatov is in my team cos we play better with him in it.
    And it's MY starting XI.

No, but 4-5-1 is my ideal formation as it also forces out Rooney to play wider and use his creativity
when we played 4-4-2 we don't see Rooney going to the sides of the pitch to whip in a cross or a long pass
like the sexual pass to Giggs that created out first goal against City

it's THEIR starting XI. so they have the choice to use Anderson who can be counted from out best players and Ando is not a flop
Berbatov is our 3rd/4th(soon to be) choice striker and the biggest flop of all the time 30m down the shitter

Thing is, Fergie doesn't even know his best XI and it's dependent on a multitude of factors thus rendering this thread void. OP should be 'best XI vs XYZ'.
when picking the team, Fergie will base it on a load of things; home or away, opposition, tactics of oppo (4 or 5 in mid) any midweek games, injuries, form of players, rotation, tiredness, formations etc.

    Example:
If we were playing away to Arsenal, you'd rather have O'Shea/Brown at RB for instance. An 'easy' home game, you'd want rafael, so he could get forward and cause damage without having to worry too much about defending.
Your 4-51 formation is great in a lot of certain games, like the City game just gone and no doubt Arsenal on Sunday.

If Hargreaves was fully fit would he get a spot? Of course he would but at who's expense? Who knows?
I do like threads like this but they always just go round and round in circles. There is no definitive answer as it's game dependent.

Nicely summed up Jazz, since the OP's first post I have been editing my team and adding comments why i'd pick Diouf/Owen over Berba or Hargo over Fletch if fit, and Wes over Rafael because he's reliable but then Rafael is attacking minded and I cant answer this thread as it all does depend on the team we're playing.

All I can say is these lads are definitely in it:

    VDS
    Evra
    Vidic
    Rio
    Rooney

The rest are changeable on any given day for me.

I personally don't like 4-5-1, but untill Owen and Berbatov do SOMETHING constantly I can't justify taking anyone out of midfield. I'd swap them for Scholes if so.

I think that we rotate too much, injuries haven't helped but even still, we shouldn't be rotating as much as we are. I think Fergie has gone something like 100 games without selecting an exact replica of the team that he put out in the previous game. If you look at the 06/07 season I think you will find that we rarely changed our starting 11, maybe two changes every now and then. We played our best attacking football that season as the players knew each others' game inside out, you could see the chemistry on the pitch, it was a joy to behold.

A club of Man Utd's stature should be playing without fear in all games, we should stick with the same formation for every game except for Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool away, and in European knockout games as well. We're Man Utd at the end of the day so screw this 4-5-1 lark and let's go in for the kill early in every game except for the fixtures that I mentioned above.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand your points.
