i would have neville over tassotti but everything else scores right imo.
In light of the clash against Milan, an interesting debate, comparing United's Treble winning side of 1999 and Milan's back-to-back European Cup Winners of 1989.
CL Debate: Who Were Greater - Manchester United 1999 Or AC Milan 1989? - Goal.com
Milan, according to Goal.com wins by 8 votes to 3.
i would have neville over tassotti but everything else scores right imo.
its not fair to compare Baresi with Stam
it should be Stam vs Costacurta and Baresi vs. Ronny
Stam > Costacurta and Baresi > Ronny
i agree with everything expect for the defence it should be Stam vs Costa..
Here's a mixed team I'd pick:
Schmeichel
Neville Stam Baresi Maldini
Donadoni Keane Scholes Giggs
van Basten Gullit
Though I will admit Becks was close to Donadoni and I probably let my heart choose over my head in the Keane versus Rijkaard debate, but to me Keano was the best in his position and was more important to United than Rijkaard was to Milan.
goal.com is a complete joke in every single sense of the word...
Unfortunately I know very little about the 89 Milan side..!

Colombo outscored Giggs?
That's ridiculous. Donadoni over Beckham as well.
All other marks quiet fair.
I know im going to get slaughtered for this.... but Gary Neville is massively overrated by the majority on here, good defender yes, but never world class like some people have claimed. According to my father who followed Milan a bit back in the 80s and 90s Tassotti was on the same level as Maldini until his car accident. Now I dont know how accurate he is, but considering Milan broke the world transfer record to sign him, I can see him being a more than decent player.
one interesting fact here.....champions league is a completely different thing to the european cup!
Goal can be a joke but this time they're right. The 89 Milan side were very, very special.
The greatest back 4 to ever play together on a team. Baresi, Costacurta & Maldini for goodness sakes.
The fact that Tassoti was, arguably, the least talented defender in that back 4 speaks volumes.
He was a fantastic right back, it's just that Baresi may be the greatest center back ever,
Costacurta is a Milanese legend & Maldini is less a man than a god who walked among mortals.
Ok, then it has to be Milan. The 1999 final was pure luck to be won by Man Utd as they were outplayed by a Bayern taht was the dominant team for 90 minutes, hit 2 or 3 bars and in general was running the show. A touch of faith, though not without justice, to reward all those great players at United though, who would otherwise have never won CL, e.g. Keane.
Bayern won the CL eventually either the following year, or two years afterwards, can't remember precisely now.
lyubs
You have to be agree that the 2 late goals have been scored by 2 excelent strikers.
Mostly of the people will forgot Karsten Yanker ,but mostly of the fans knows what kind of player Solskaer was.
You tried to make a point that Milan's squad have been an atractive and dominating as well, but excactly in 1989/90 they were too lucky vs Crvena Zvezda.( I don't like to use Red Star) Milan won because .....of a fog.
10 minutes to the End Zvezda had a lead. and all these Milanese players were far from the idea how to won.
ps
This Milan's squad had overplayed Steaua Bukurest a year before and Barca in 1994.
You lot are biased if you think that the article is wrong or if Neville is better than Tassotti
Tassotti is among the best rightbacks ever, he was classed as a world class player unlike Neville who never been a world class player
and there is no need to comment on the rest of the back 4 or the strikers
i would go with this team
Schmeichel
Tassotti Stam Baresi Maldini
Donadoni Rijkaard Scholes Giggs
van Basten Gullit
