tbf towards the end of Ruud's career here, Saha was scoring for fun
tbf towards the end of Ruud's career here, Saha was scoring for fun
and Saha was getting injuries for fun
mistakes i can think of recently, no order
Buying Veron
Selling Stam
Selling Van Nistelrooy
Selling Saha. ( injuries i know, but i think hes quality! )
Selling the best player to ever have graced our red shirts.
John Greening.
Selling Saha was the best call at the time. He was constantly injured and just couldnt be relied upon to be fit for the games we needed him to be. Quality player but we had to move one.
Stam was a mistake and SAF admits that.
I dont see how we can call sellign Ruud a mistakes considering the sucess we had after and the growth of Ronaldo into the worlds best player.
Veron was a quality player and i was so excited when we signed him. unfortunaty like a lot of foreign signing it just didnt work out. league winners with him in the team still though.
Selling Ronaldo is a hard call because with him wanting to leave and the cash offered if really wasnt 100% SAFS call.
Greening has a champions league winners medal. lol ;-)
We bought Veron for £28 million and at the time he was one of the best midfielders in the world but he couldn't adapt to the English game, Fergie could really see that happening. We also got £15 million back for him. On the other hand be spent £30 million on Berbatov who already played in England, don't think many clubs will be offering £15 million for him.
I loved David Becham while he was here, but I actually think selling him might have been one of the best moves Fergie ever made. Even though we won the title in 02/03, I think Fergie realised that a major overhaul was required if we were going to continue to compete with Arsenal (who at the time looked like they could go on a several year run). The turnaround took a few seasons to materialise, but it did - big time. .
It is actually a part of Fergie's true genius that he is able to see when difficult decisions and moves like that are required.
If only we sold Becks to Barcelona instead...
We probably would have bought Ronaldinho aswell as Ronaldo. That would have made us formidable during our dry patch of 2004-2006
Never rated Beckham as much as some of you guys, good player but never great. I don't buy into him at all, him wearing the green and gold scarf was another one of his ridiculous publicity stunts.
I''m with you.
When Fergie signed Veron most of the footballing world though it was going to be a fantastic signing.
The pundits were getting hard ons and even i was chuffed Fergie managed to pull it off.
Veron couldn't adept, but he had so much talent that you would have bet your house on him doing so.
Things happen for a reason and he DID leave at the right time. For the reasaons i stated in my post as well as your.
The kind of football we were playing was too one-dimensional and although becks is a great footballer, Ronaldo provided the foundation to play differently and the media circus surrounding Becks and Posh was getting too much.
selling beckham was no mistake ,ronaldo replaced him and proved himself the best in the world while beckham has virtually done nothing over the same duration . selling stam was obviously fergies biggest mistake utd went backwards when jip jaap left and fergie say's that himself .
this thread is a joke, right ?
selling beckham was one of the best decisions fergie has ever made...with him staying we wouldn't have bought ronaldo who went on to become the better and more productive player that beckham ever was for us...he also went to become the best player in the world
and he also got us a lot of money for his pop star look
Bollocks was it. Selling Beckham was the best thing he could have done at the time.
We got Ronaldo as a replacement.
