According to some English media outlets, Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is a 'major doubt' to face Barcelona tomorrow.
The England striker was forced to limp off after falling awkwardly on his injured hip during the loss at Stamford Bridge this weekend. The initial prognosis was positive considering his prospects of making it back in time for Tuesday, but now the Sun claims that Rooney only has a 30 per cent chance of regaining fitness in for the Champions League semifinal decider.
There has been no official word from the United camp in this regard, but no doubt there will be wide concern amongst the United faithful about the availability of one of their most important players for a match of such pivotal importance to their campaign.
Sir Alex Ferguson had been simultaneously promising and warning that Rooney would be unleashed at home against Barca, having been made to do so much defensive work during the scoreless first-leg at the Camp Nou.
The 24-year old England international attacking ace suffered a hip injury during Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday and spent yesterday in the treatment room.
Red Devils sources rate the striker as having just a 30 per cent chance of starting the Champions League semi-final at Old Trafford.
Amazingly, it took the United bench a total of six minutes to replace him with Cristiano Ronaldo at Stamford Bridge.
