Totti Hoping To Play At Old Trafford

Source: Goal.com

Roma captain Francesco Totti hints that there is a possibility that he will recover in time for the game against Manchester United.

Totti missed the 2-0 defeat in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico through injury however there are hopes that he will recover in time and he may even feature in the return leg at Old Trafford next week.

The Giallorossi missed the talisman greatly on Tuesday night and it would be a massive boost for them if Totti returns as his side hope to overturn their first leg aggregate deficit.

Totti was at the opening of a new Fiat-Yamaha store in Rome on Friday evening and he was asked by journalists whether he would be available for the game against Manchester United.

“I hope to be back pretty soon,” Totti told Il Romanista

“I am not sure if I’ll be back for the game but I am hoping that I will make it.”

Totti’s return would no doubt give Roma an advantage as they look to make a miracle in Manchester. The odds are heavily stacked up against them as United are favourites to progress.

However Roma are a completely different side when Totti is in the team and with the World Cup winner dragging them on anything is possible.

First though, the Giallorossi are in action against against Genoa and they will be hoping for maximum points as they try and close the gap on league leaders Inter.

Got my ticket for the Roma second leg. So are we for definite, playing against Barca in the last 4? Because some people on here believe that's going to happen, before the draw has even been made, yet alone the remainder of the quarter second legs.

My ticket was £50 for this game you know.

Yes, United will play against Barca for the semi-final tie provided that both teams managed to progress...the draw for the remaining rounds has already been made on the day the quarter-final draw took place. And the winner for the match between Arsenal - Liverpool will play against the winner from Fenerbahce - Chelsea game. I know it's hard to see AS Roma defeating United by at least 3 clear goals @ OT. But football afterall, is still, football. Anything may happen during the 90mins when the game's bein' played.

Ji-Sung Park has hailed Paul Scholes as an inspiration as the Manchester United ace prepares to make his 100th Champions League appearance.

The former England midfielder has regained his form after a three-and-a-half-month absence because of a knee injury.

Park has been impressed with Scholes recent displays.

"Paul trains hard and the way he passes the ball is unbelievable," said the Korea midfielder.

"He always seems to find a team-mate. I am just happy to watch him and learn from him."

Park's inclusion in the side to face Roma was a surprise but he had a hand in the second goal, scored by Wayne Rooney.

Cristiano Ronaldo had made the breakthrough and it was an assured performance by United.

Park, whose season only started on Boxing Day after a knee operation, said: "I enjoyed the victory. It was good to get a game as it was a big match.

"There is a lot of competition for places in midfield so you have perform well in training and when you play.

"The result gives us confidence in the next game, although we have to concentrate fully in the second leg."

Rooney put in a hard shift in Italy but insists there is still work to be done next week.

He said: "It was a good professional job and we got the result we deserved in Rome.

"It is a good platform for next week. In the Champions League you never know so we have to make sure we are professional again.

"In the second leg we have to ensure we focus and play the same way we play each week and have a good attitude, and hopefully that will see us through."

Rooney's comments were echoed by defender Patrice Evra as United aim to continue their unbeaten record in Europe.

Evra said: "We were satisfied with our display in Rome but you never know what will happen in football.

"We have to keep our concentration in the second leg and be professional again and then we can go through to the semi finals."

Nani is expected to recover from a thigh problem and face Roma with Barcelona or Schalke awaiting the winners.
