| After the hard work of last season and the cuts and bruises of the troops have
been cared to, speculation is rife over the Old Trafford arena as guesses are
being made, to which player may join up with the current squad.
With the media naming numerous stars that are apparently United bound, the
boss man, Ferguson, has claimed, "I wouldn't think any more than one player" will be signed this Summer.
Speaking to SkySports, Sir Alex had this to say on the issue, "The European Championship derails transfer activity," said Sir Alex. "Nothing
really happens during the tournament. But now it's all over, managers will be
back at their clubs and you can get some dialogue now if there's interest.
"I wouldn't think (we'll sign) any more than one player. We are looking at one or
two things."
"People think it's easy to buy players nowadays but it's not," he said.
"Money plays a big part, first of all. And clubs with ambitions don't want to sell
their best players. So it's not as easy as you'd think. We tend to look for younger
players." -manutd.com
This now narrows the choices for the fans and media alike to speculate on what
will take place in the coming weeks. Will United go for a new right back with club
captain Gary Neville finding it harder and harder to regain and sustain full fitness.
If it were to be a defender, some reports have suggested Germany's Philip Lahm
although he's a predominantly left sided player while others have pointed fingers
at England's up and coming star, Micah Richards currently serving his time on the
Blue side of Manchester.
Other possibilities are in the midfielder role. With many presuming that Cristiano
Ronaldo is on his way to Spain, thoughts are turning toward a new winger with
Andrei Arshavin being linked along with Ashley Young and Messi from Barcelona
although it's highly unlikely that Barcelona will sell one of their greatest assets to
United unless Ronaldo was heading that way. The latest addition to that list is
Bastian Schweinsteiger for a reported £15M which is well within the United
budget.
In the forward department, is where the majority of fans believe the new signing
will be made though. At the beginning of last season, the comments were that
United need an out and out striker. Rooney and Tevez proved those "experts"
wrong but Ferguson may delve into his cash book for Klass Jan Huntelaar, Karim
Benzema, Roque Santa Cruz or Dimitar Berbatov. All of which are well capable of
producing in the red of United.
The news of the transfer activity of Fergie and his backroom staff will follow here
within the next few days I'm sure, as Ferguson normally tries to get his business
done early and concentrate on the training for the remainder of the Summer. One
thing for sure though, is that you can rest assured that you won't be seeing the
same amount of activity as last Summer with Tevez, Hargreaves, Anderson and
Nani arriving at the Theatre of Dreams! |
