Berbatov exit sign
UNITED'S hopes of landing Sir Alex Ferguson's No 1 target Dimitar Berbatov are
increasing.
The Reds have ruled out a transfer swoop in the remaining 17 days of the
January window but want to pursue their interest in the summer.
On the other hand Tottenham are expected to be busy before the end of the
month and have Middlesbrough's England winger Stewart Downing and Lyon's
Brazilian striker Fred in their sights.
Downing has expressed his interest in quitting Teesside for White Hart Lane.
Fred claims he's had interest from Spurs and Paris St Germain.
It is believed that Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is preparing the ground for
Berbatov's departure with United in pole position to land him at the end of the
season.
Keeping the powder dry will suit Fergie. He has consistently expressed his
contentment with his squad but remains an out-and-out striker light.
Meanwhile, current hitman Wayne Rooney has lost ground again in the battle to
be United's top scorer.
Firstly, Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez shared five goals against Newcastle
on Saturday and now, to rub salt in Rooney's wounds, his campaign tally has
gone down one!
The Dubious Goals Committee have chalked off his strike at Arsenal in November,
recording it as a William Gallas own goal, leaving Rooney on nine for the term.
Should United go for Berbatov now, in summer or at all?
