| Frenchie, I suppose I am what you can call an "oldie" and yes, I was a buggar when a teenager but we did not mug people, we did not carry knives or weapons, we did not indulge in mindless vandalism and we respected the Police. On the odd occasion a window got damaged it was invariably someone having a bit too much to drink, nothing more.
Old folk could walk the streets in perfect safety day or night. When we were going here or there in large groups, we parted the ways for ladies with prams, old folk, people coming in the opposite direction. They did not cross the road or flinch when we passed, they had no fear, we had respect for other people, but, we were still young and rebellious and free from political correctness, health & safety and the Police did not bother us unless we were becoming slightly "rowdy". But we were free to go wherever we wanted, when we wanted.
I have had many a clip across the back of the head from a copper for not moving on when instructed. And quite rightly so; it caused no harm and did not deter from our respect. |

a lot of yobs round my area of manchester too love.
the worst part is that youth crime is a hell of a lot worse then the papers say it is. There's a shooting or use of a firearm nearly everyday in Moss Side alone. i've known many people that have bin stabbed and threatened as well.
i would walk the nights alone, but i agree on crossing the road or choosing another path, just common sense really.
i have a friend who once witnessed an old woman falling ova. as he went to help her up her reply was "please don't hurt me". he does look a thuggish type but was far from it. |

| thats soo sad,an elderly lady falls your friend tries to help, and she thinks he's gonna hurt her. but it's becoming more and more common in this country, most young men would probably never hurt any one,but because the minority spoils it for the majority they all become plastered as yobs.but it is quite frightening when you have a large group of youngsters hanging around on street corners, thats why i don't go out alone in the late evening very often.the thing is though, you hear alot about bad lads, but round here some of the girls are much worse. |

| Police insist that crime figures are falling but they are not, quite the opposite - it is only REPORTED crime that is falling because people do not bother to report crime anymore as the Police are pathetic, they do not respond. Crime is actually rampantly out of control. |

| Stern measures. Bin the Human Rights Bill, take pc out of the Police. Increase criminal punishments. Gve Police more rewards for successful prosecutions. Make judges accountable. Zero tolerance on the streets. Bring back the SUS law (Search Under suspicion). |

| They won't bin the human rights though will they.!
Zero tolerance sounds perfect, but i bet that wouldn't work either, too pc.
i'd love too feel safe.for example..walking in the local town this afternoon past cop shop, there were about five big lads sitting on the swinging chains that cut the carpark from the road, they were loud, were making cheeky comments and i felt very uncomfortable, now they weren't doing anything wrong, but my perseption of them was..ooh god theres trouble..but they were just out for a laugh, and i just put my head down and passed them, just the odd, hello darling came my way, nothing wrong in that..but i believe they should not have been on the street corner though. |

| human rights is the key. the reason no one is scared of prison is beacuse they know they will be treated 5 star class.
but surely, if you violate sumone elses human rights surely you forfeit ur own !
were living in an age where the victims families are the ones left worse off after the trial.
recently in america a british man was sent down for killing his wife and child. the judge gave him life without ever chance of parole. that basically means he is going to die in jail, without eva being free again. and americans prisons are extremely rough. |
