It can actually work out well for some people.

My Uncle never went to university and he works as a Project Director for a
massive shopfitting company in Bahrain. He was in Dubai up until last month
but he got head hunted and moved for better money.

I don't think Richard Branson went to university either

I do think University is the best option still though.

I thought that was a shoplifting company for a second there

Yeah Branson left school at 16 I think. My dad couldn't afford university, and even though he had the best results in his class they only gave grants to wealthy kids in that day (don't ask ) I would strongly advise you to go to university. Education is very important in today's crazy world.

But yeah, going into a trade isn't bad either, unless there's a recession

Oh and Congrats Wazza : )

My Uncle started out as a tradesman (joiner) then started his own
construction company.

He sold it and went to work for the biggest shopfitter in Britain (Styles &
Wood) and has been the Project Director (big boss man) on erecting John
Lewis', Marks & Spencers, Royal Bank of Scotland (He built the new one in
Hardman Boulevard) etc etc. Then they sent him off to Dubai where he
stayed for about four months and then he got offered a better deal
