Man United set to sign Welsh wizard Aaron Ramsey for £5million

Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to beat Chelsea and Arsenal - by signing Welsh wizard Aaron Ramsey for £5million.

The Manchester United boss opened talks to land the 17-year-old from FA Cup finalists Cardiff City just 24 hours after clinching the Premier League title.

Ramsey's advisers are keen and the transfer is expected to be officially announced after Cardiff's Wembley date on Saturday. Midfield starlet Ramsey is viewed as the long-term replacement for Paul Scholes.

It will be a blow for Arsene Wenger, who wants the superkid to join his youthful ranks at Arsenal. And Chelsea have also been looking at Ramsey as a squad man and one for the future.

Hope it is true, seems like a good prospect.

Aaron Ramsey Factfile: 10 things you need to know about Manchester United's new targe

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...9520-20416010/

Aaron Ramsey is set to become the next teenage Premiership sensation following his proposed transfer from Cardiff City to Manchester United. If your knowledge of the Welsh starlet is a little rusty, then let Mirror.co.uk's essential fact file fill in the gaps.

    1) Cardiff first signed Aaron Ramsey as an eight year-old schoolboy after he impressed in a Welsh League of Youth tournament. They beat off competition from Newcastle for the youngster’s signature.

    2) He still lives at home in Wales with his parents Marlene and Kevin, and brother Josh.

    3) Ramsey has made just 15 appearances for Cardiff, the first coming as a substitute in the last minute of the final home game of 2006/07 Championship season. Cardiff lost the game 1-0 to Hull.

    4) He is currently the youngest player ever to appear for Cardiff City aged just 16 years and 124 days, beating John Toshack’s previous record.

    5) Ramsey made his first professional start for Cardiff in their FA Cup Third Round tie at Chasetown on January 5, 2008. Ramsey scored the second goal in their 3-1 victory and was nominated for the Player Of The Round award (eventually won by Coventry’s Michael Mifsud).

    6) The midfielder scored his first league goal for Cardiff in the 3-3 draw with Burnley on April 26, 2008.

    7) Ramsey made his debut for the Welsh U21 side as a second-half substitute in the 4-3 victory over Sweden on August 21st, 2007. Previously he’d captained the national U17s.

    8) He’s fluent in both English and Welsh, and his all-time Welsh hero is Ryan Giggs, so he’ll be in good company at Old Trafford.

    9) Cardiff turned down a £1m offer from Everton earlier this season, and other clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle were rumoured to be monitoring his progress. Ramsey reportedly first came onto Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar after his impressive display in Cardiff’s 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat of Middlesboro.

    10) Aaron Ramsey’s nickname at Cardiff is Rambo, after the Sylvester Stallone character of the same name. Premiership strikers be warned…

As usual, United look towards the future.

I haven't seen him. Is he a regular? If he is, I guess we'll all see him in the final

i go and watch cardiff quite regular and i can tell you ramsey is a top player in the making,he is strong and composed for his age and its a pretty manic league that he plays in.
ramsey is a ball player who see's things happening before most of his team mates, its obvious the kid will progress to premiership class and i strongly urge utd to gamble on him ,he could be a bit special in 3 or 4 seasons time.

    Thanks for that.

I didn't know anything about him

Is he going to be Scholes long term replacement? Thats what people say, but I thought that was why we bought Anderson.

    United Make First Signing?

    Vital Football

Reports emanating from the press today suggest United may have already started their summer spending spree; with the capture of Welsh youngster Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff City.

Now we here at Vital United don`t usually falls prey to the tabloid talk of such newspapers as The Mirror and the Manchester Evening News; yet on this occasion their could be an element of truth in it.

Reports suggest Sir Alex tabled a bid of £5 million for the 17-year old just 24 hours after lifting the clubs 10th Premier League Crown. The FA Cup Finalists are said to be very interested in the deal; but wish to postpone any official comment until after Saturday`s showdown with Portsmouth.

Now admittedly, I know little of this "wonder-kid"; but have had the privilege of watching him earlier on in the season in the FA Cup Quarter Final with Middlesbrough. The day passed him somewhat, yet glimpses of real promise were evident for the player dubbed as being the "new-Scholes" (...though I though that was what Anderson was bought for).

So, I guess we must all speculate fore the time being, but feel free to comment if you have any other information on the player other than my admittedly sparse knowledge given above. But in the meantime, we can all catch-up on our POSSIBLE new signing on Saturday, when he is likely to play some part.

Wembley priority for Ramsey as United close in

May 14 2008 by Blair Wood, Western Mail

WELSH wonder Aaron Ramsey insists he is focusing 100 per cent on the FA Cup final amid mounting speculation linking him with a dream move to Manchester United. According to reports in the north-west, Sir Alex Ferguson’s newly-crowned Premiership champions have already opened talks with Cardiff City about a multimillion pound summer swoop for the prodigiously-talented teenager.
The Manchester Evening News says Fergie is in pole position to land Ramsey ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea after beginning discussions with the Bluebirds.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp heightened the speculation further yesterday by singling out Ramsey for special mention at his pre-FA Cup final media briefing.Redknapp declared Ramsey was so special, he would HAVE to join one of the Premiership big four, rather than any other club in the top flight.Ramsey’s stock is set to rise even further tomorrow when he is set to win a Wales senior call for the first time as John Toshack names his squad for the coming friendlies with Holland and Iceland. Ramsey says he is aware of the hype and speculation surrounding his future, but maintains his thought process is firmly upon Wembley this weekend ... and nothing else.

“The media stories don’t affect me whatsoever,” insisted Ramsey. “Obviously, I hear about it, I just don’t take any notice. “Everyone wants to play in the Premiership. It’s probably the best league in the world. “But I’m a Cardiff player and I just concentrate on doing my best for the club. I’m just focused on getting into the starting XI this weekend and trying to win the FA Cup.”

Ramsey continued: “People close to me help me keep my feet on the ground. But I’m not the sort of person who will take much notice anyway. I’m level-headed, so I don’t let these sort of things affect me.Pompey chief Redknapp joined the growing clamour of people talking up Ramsey when he said yesterday: “Aaron is a very special player, make no mistake about that.“He is going to go to one of the big four at some stage of his career ... Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool.

“There is no question about it that he is of that quality.”
If Ramsey does join United one day, it would give him the chance to follow in the footsteps of his footballing idol Ryan Giggs.
But he is first hoping to emulate Giggs in this weekend’s mouthwatering Wembley showdown.
“Ryan has won the FA Cup quite a few times and I’ve got a chance of some FA Cup history of my own at the age of 17,” said Ramsey.
“I’d like to model myself on Ryan. He is a player who thrills the fans.
“He has played in the major tournaments for United and has been a great ambassador for the game.
“I don’t know yet if I’m playing on Saturday. I’m just going to try my hardest in training to get into that starting line-up. It would be unbelievable if I could start at Wembley. But, if I don’t, I still have to be focused because football is a funny game and you never know what will happen over 90 minutes and when you might come on.
“We are playing against Premiership opposition, so we know it will be a tough test. But we will just go there, do our own thing and hopefully come out winners. We are confident that, if we play the way we know we can, we can beat anyone. Obviously Portsmouth are a quality side with some really good players, but we just have to be better than them on the day.”
Before that, Ramsey should be given an extra boost by being named in Toshack’s senior Wales squad for the first time.
Having seen Ramsey shine for the U21s, Toshack is ready to take a close look at the teen star in the May 28 clash with Iceland in Reykjavik and the June 1 showdown with the Dutch in Rotterdam.
“It has been my dream to play for Wales, so it’s really nice to hear the reports that I might be called up,” said Ramsey.
“But, again, being selected for Wales isn’t on my thoughts at the moment. Wembley, on Saturday, is the priority.”

Man Utd Target Cardiff Prodigy Ramsey

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a bid for Cardiff City's highly-rated teenager, Aaron Ramsey.

Talented Cardiff youngster Aaron Ramsey is the subject of interest from newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester United, according to reports.

The tenage prodigy is due to play at Wembley in the FA Cup final against Portsmouth on Saturday, and widely tipped to be named in John Toshack's next Wales squad for the first time, with international matches against Iceland and Holland on the horizon.

According to some reports, talks are already underway between United and the Bluebirds, but the teenager himself is keeping his feet firmly on Welsh ground.

Ramsey said, "The media stories don’t affect me whatsoever. Obviously I hear about it, I just don’t take any notice.

"Everyone wants to play in the Premiership. It’s probably the best league in the world. But I’m a Cardiff player and I just concentrate on doing my best for the club. I’m just focused on getting into the starting XI this weekend and trying to win the FA Cup."

"People close to me help me keep my feet on the ground. But I’m not the sort of person who will take much notice anyway. I’m level-headed, so I don’t let these sort of things affect me."

Harry Redknapp, manager of Cardiff's opponents, Portsmouth, in the FA Cup final, commented: "Aaron is a very special player, make no mistake about that. He is going to go to one of the big four at some stage of his career.

"There is no question about it that he is of that quality."

Guys, i am from Cardiff and i have seen Ramsey play a few times, i can tell you now, he is better than Steven Gerrard was at 17, he is box-to-box midfielder with great vision, energy and composure for someone so young

I have no doubt that if UNITED sign him and coach him well he will become as good if not better than the Gerrard of today and you can quote me on that in 10 years time!

In my opinion the best option right now is to sign him and loan him back to Cardiff for a season or two, as it will do him good to play every week, when you watch the final just remember that this kid is just 17

    ** turns Keegan voice on**

I would love it, love it................. if we sign this boy
