Berbatov Speculation & Discussion

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/sto...538842,00.html

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has started making plans for life without Dimitar Berbatov after admitting he cannot persuade the striker to stay.

Ramos wants to keep Berbatov at White Hart Lane but concedes the 28-year-old Bulgaria international will depart if a club matches Spurs' valuation and the player wants to move.

The Spurs boss has indicated his preference would be cash for the player rather than a swap deal.

"I've spoken to him many times and know exactly what he wants," said the Spaniard.

Ramos, when asked if it is possible to change Berbatov's mind at this stage, added: "No, I understand perfectly well that big clubs want to sign him."

Berbatov has recovered from a groin injury and is available to play against Liverpool on Sunday, which could be a farewell appearance if an appropriate bid is tabled over the summer.

With Berbatov tipped to eventually grace the Champions League, Spurs have looked at other strikers in case he leaves.

Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o has been linked with a move to Spurs and the Catalan giants have suggested they would study any bid made for the Cameroon forward.

Ramos said: "Obviously we have to cover our backs in case the player decides to leave and we have to have options to replace him.

"I would obviously like him to stay here but we don't know how future negotiations will go so it is something I cannot guarantee.

"If there are offers coming in for the player we will see if they convince the club and the player as well.

"What we want is for the player to be happy and enjoy his football. The player has the key to this and it is up to him at the end of the day.

"If that happened I'm sure the club would prefer to have the money because with the money they would be able to sign the players necessary.

"They would be able to look on the market for appropriate players."

Ramos believes it will be possible to replace Berbatov if he leaves, adding: "Of course there are great players in Europe that can do just as well as Berbatov."

Berbatov is one of many potential departures this summer as Ramos shapes his squad for his first full season in the Premier League.

Centre-back Younes Kaboul has publicly criticised the head coach and is interested in a move to Portsmouth, while Radek Cerny is expected to sign for QPR.

Cerny will almost certainly be in goal on Sunday as Paul Robinson, who has also been linked with a summer move at times this season, has aggravated an ankle injury.

During our first league encounter with Spurs this season, Berba was silky smooth!
This guy oozes class. He is a sulk, but maybe fergie could get that out of his system.

His abilitiy with the ball and creativity is pure class and the only thing preventing me from totally loving him is the long faces he pulls when things aren;t going his way.

I bet he will move to a top 4 club no doubt about it..or a top club overseas...liverpoo want a new striker to be with Torres up front...we need a new striker for depth...Arsenal are rebuilding their squad and eduardo is out for half of next season...chelsea might sell drogba and berbatov and anelka would be a nice combo so yeah...I would only buy him if he comes at a good price and not some over the top ******** price

I'd say Fergie will enter the race for the ace striker.

Be very surprised if we didn't hunt for him.

Be very interesting how he'd fit in the team.

4-3-3? Perhaps Fergie's got a few plans up his sleeve!

Berbatov move from Spurs could trigger a deals spree this summer

Dimitar Berbatov's absence at the launch of Tottenham's new kit this week left us in little doubt that he will not be wearing it next season.
Less clear is where the Bulgaria striker will end up, and what impact his move will have on the transfer market as the Premier League's foreign owners flex their financial muscles.

Berbatov's departure from White Hart Lane promises to be one of the most significant deals of the transfer window. Rumours were rife yesterday that Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra was lining up a British record £32million offer. However, he is more likely to end up on the other side of Manchester. A year after turning down the opportunity to sign Berbatov for £10.9m, United are prepared to pay twice that after his agent confided he would only consider Old Trafford if he stays in England.

Spain and Italy are also options, but Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to be at the front of the queue after being told he will be have money to spend. Capturing Berbatov would mean that Ferguson's rivals could go for his other targets — Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Sevilla's Luis Fabiano and Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz — while United would almost certainly put Louis Saha on the market.

A right back and right midfielder are Ferguson's other priorities. He is ready to compete with Chelsea for Sevilla's £20m-rated Daniel Alves but the United boss could also try to capitalise on the uncertainty at City created by Thaksin's decision to axe Sven Goran Eriksson by making a bold move for £25m Micah Richards.

Roman Abramovich is ready to sanction a £100m outlay for Chelsea to sign up to four players. If Berbatov does not move to Stamford Bridge, Palermo's Amauri and David Villa of Valencia remain options. Ironically, Spurs see Villa as the ideal replacement for Berbatov, with Valencia desperate to sell the striker for £16m.

Wounded pride on the continent over English clubs dominating the Champions League is bound to bring a strong response this summer. While AC Milan remain favourites to sign Barcelona's Ronaldinho, Rino Gattuso's time at the San Siro could be up, which could alert Arsenal, who will need two midfielders if Alexander Hleb follows Mathieu Flamini out of the Emirates.

With Thaksin eager to appease fans over the Eriksson fall-out and Berbatov and Ronaldinho out of their reach, City could move for CSKA Moscow's Brazilian quartet of Jo, Vagner Love, Daniel Carvalho and Dudu Cearense, particularly if former Brazil coach Phil Scolari replaces the Swede.

It all points to another mammoth spending spree this summer, although some experts believe it will not beat the record £500m set by English clubs last year.

Dan Jones, a partner in the sports business group at Deloitte said: "It will be busy but I'm not sure whether it will beat last summer because that was that first year of the new TV deal and there haven't been as many changes of ownership and manager. "Gates are at record levels, there are big sponsorship deals, and a big Champions League TV deal being done, so the majority of that flows through to wages and transfers."

My god, will the Berbatov situation ever cease?

I hope we steer clear of Berbatov and Alves tbh.

I think Berbatov would be the perfect signing, but only for the right price. I think 20m plus Pique would be a good deal for us and Tottenham. I would be very sad to see him go anywhere else than Man Utd.
