Oh Dios Mio! More transfer rumours: United in frame for Miguel

by Laurent Picard

Manchester United have launched a bid to try and sign Valencia defender Miguel, according to reports in Spain.

Los Ches are going through a major financial crisis and a number of players are tipped to move on, including the right back.

Portugal international Miguel has been an impressive figure for Valencia, having risen to prominence at Euro 2004, and it is being claimed talks between United and the player’s agent Paulo Barbosa are believed to have started.

Miguel is under contract until 2012 and his buy-out clause is believed to be set at £12 million.

The full back has spoken of his determination to progress his career and has admitted he would be ready to be move on.

“I am ambitious and if a good proposition is made, anything is possible,” Miguel said.

“The decision depends on Valencia.

“If the club accept my sale, no problems, and if the new (Valencia) coach relies on me, I stay.”

Miguel could be the second Portugal international right back to move to The Premier League in a short space of time, following Chelsea's capture of Jose Bosingwa.

Manchester United Target Miguel

The British club are reportedly keen on bolstering their defensive options, with the arrival of a new right-sided defender being a longtime wish of boss Alex Ferguson.

Although Manchester United's number one transfer target was said to be José Bosingwa, Chelsea's quick move for the 25-year-old has made the Scottish veteran turn his attention to the Valencia man.

And Miguel, who has been a first-team choice since moving from Benfica in 2005, has not ruled out a summer transfer despite saying that he is happy with life at Los Che.

Valencia are reportedly going through a financial crisis, and since off-loading some of their main stars seems to be their only option, they should not hinder a lucrative offer for Miguel.

It is understood that a fee of €15 million will be enough to persuade Valencia to allow the Portuguese player, who will be at Euro 2008, to go to Old Trafford.

I like him. I think hes a top player.

But I'm not sure if the fee that is being touted is a fair price, considering his age.

If he was a bit younger I would say yes. But at 28, is £12m too much to pay for a full-back, considering full-backs tend not to cost as much?
