    Miguel Veloso

With Hargreaves' long term fitness and Anderson's long term potential
in doubt, along with Scholes being 35 this year, the only CM I can
almost certainly say will be in our Starting XI in 2-3 years is Michael
    Carrick.

Naturally, I'm as excited as the next chap with regards to Darron
Gibson and Rodrigo Possebon [happy birthday by the way] but
it's a bit too early to know if they'll turn out to be United quality.

Miguel Veloso, on the other hand, seems to be a fairly sure bet
as he's establishing himself as an excellent midfielder with quality
shots and through balls but also a very good sense of positioning
    and all round discipline.

Newspaper reports from the last year say that he'd be availible
for about £10-15mil. which is also facilitated by our good relations
with Sporting. I doubt he'd have any problems in fitting in and think
he's an excellent prospect for the future.

I'm sure our resident Sporting fan can give a much better insight to this lad's talents than I can, but in the games he's played against us I've not been impressed one little bit. Admittedly I've only seen him play a few times, and one could argue that he's unlikely to impress whilst playing against a team as good as ours, but if he's to fit into our team he'll be playing against teams just as good as ours regularly.

I'm not convinced he can make it at the very top level. He looks a good player, but not amazing. Maybe with the right coaching and guidance he can make that step up, but I honestly don't see it.

Besides, have you forgotten about a young Brazilian called Anderson?

Well, Miguel Veloso isn't a center midfield in that regard, he's more of a DM with good pacing, he can come forward when he needs to, and he does have a powerful kick, but he's mostly a DM, even if a versatile one.

As for quality, I rate him as our best midfielder, in terms of potential and what he's already done. He has a very high release clause (30M€), but it's almost a given that, when he leave, he'll go for less, but I highly doubt he'll go for those 10-15M. Well, since it's United, he might, but I'd expect something closer to 20M€.

I think he has the potential to be a good midfielder, even in a squad like United's, but, since he's most natural playing as a DM, is that really what you want?

On the other hand, there's João Moutinho. He's extremely regular, not quite as powerful, both in defensive roles, as in sheer physical difference, but he has great positioning, recovers a lot of balls, and he's the most regular player I've ever seen. He hardly gets booked, I haven't seen him miss a game because of injuries, and he gets hammered pretty hard by the opposition. Amazing stamina, lasts the entire game, and he's the quintessential box to box. defensive, central, left, right, offensive, you name it. In fact, I think he's worst quality is his size, he's a bit short. That, and he needs more time to develop is creative play, which is what I see as a work in progress, but that can be improved on. He does great through balls, but needs to lear to read the game more, and since the premiership is a lot faster than our league, that could be a though one.

But, if you want a versatile midfielder, that can go the distance, and play in any position, I'd go for Moutinho, rather than Veloso. Veloso can progress a lot, but he's much more confortable as a DM.

If you dont know anything about football, stop making threads.

Anderson WILL be one of the best midfielders in the world within a few years. Not only do we have Carrick but also Fletcher who has played out of his skin this season.

Also, why Miguel Veloso? He hasnt proved himself on any sort of stage, apart from the Portuguese League, which is hardly amazing.

Another thing, if Bolton think they can get him, why is he so obviously Man United material?

I really don't rate veloso that much tbh. His best position is a DM and we have carrick and hargreaves for that so i think we looking for more of a creative/attacking midfielder like anderosn but better, anderson has not got better than when he first came to us if anything he's got worse plus he still hasn't scored (except for his penalty in the champions league final). Imo we should let anderson develop as he will be amazing one day he's only 20 and has time to develope.

Would you switch from a Champions League club to a relegation club??

Just because they think they can get him doesn't make it true, m8...

so many teams in the PL are linked with. spurs, everton, man city at one time and us.

great player watched him couple of times in the CL and held his own against barca and the attacking players they have.

i will like to see him here. we need a strong midfield player in the middle and losing out on essien and not getting palacios.

Veloso is decent lad whom i think is not a better quality than Anderson whos out of form
and Veloso style isn't made for our team hes a defencive midfielder more than a CM as Sporty and not a player to partner Carrick

imo if we should sign anybody it should be Mikel Arteta his style of play demolish the defences his a master at both long and short passes and one of the most effective players in the league, other than direct assists and great set-piece ability he is the probably the reason behind every everton attack and he builds the best attacks in the league
we lack creativity in the midfield and he haves it so with him and carrick in the middle we have both the depth and the width

Hey abo,##that is a good call and I would not mind Mikel Arteta in an United Jersey.

He would certainly offer this current squad more than Miguel Veloso.

We Hagreaves to come back from injury and as others have said Anderson has much more potential than Veloso to be honest.

I know Anderson has been playing more defensively for us, but my hope is for him to develope his attacking game. He showed glimpses of brilliance at Gremio and Porto when attacking and if he kicks on, I see him becoming more of an attacking midfielder.
