Agreed. I think the current squad will start the new season, and if Fergie thinks we need more players he'll be active in the january transfer market. We got the money and when all the fuss surrounding this transfer window calms down and clubs spent their planned transfer budgets we'll be in pole position to sign any player we want. Don't be surprised if we go for Aguero or Douglas Costa in 7 months time

22.20 Manchester United are reported to have cooled their interest £20million-rated Douglas Costa due to the Brazilian forward's price tag and the involvement of too many agents

well thats a bit of a shame, but the fact that they wanted 20 million is a joke to me so thats fair enough why we have pulled out of the deal.

20 mil is way too much money for an unproven talent. Well done united for walking away!

We're not idiots, 20mil for a player who hasn't had a single good game for his club?

You can kindly **** off Gremio.

He'll be ours eventually. We'll go for him again in January and by then, they might have lowered the asking price.

A lot of fans have not been happy at our lack of transfer activity but im glad to see that we are not behaving like some other clubs at the moment and just spending willy nilly.

the lad is yougn, unproven and in one report ive read, only really had a few good games for brazil u20s.

    great shout united.

Thisprice bollocks could single handedly ruin footy forever,
Club don't want too pay 20 million for 18 year olds , so they aren't going too move too better clubs
Therefore they won't reach there full potential

Funny, i know, but bare in mind Pathetico Madrid paid £20m in sterling to take Aguero from Argentina to Spain. If the kid is good enough, then we should make the investment. If he can not give us a marked improvement on our current quad, then he ain't worth £20m is he. Is he?

Totally agree - we need to be able to push the boat out for top talent - but not unproven kids

    Independiente

Sergio Agüero started playing for Argentine First Division Club Independiente, becoming the youngest player to debut in the Argentine First Division at 15 years and 35 days (on 7 July 2003 against Club Atlético San Lorenzo), breaking the record previously established by Diego Maradona in 1976.[2]

    Atlético Madrid

In April 2006, it was reported that Atlético de Madrid had "pulled off a stunning transfer coup in the signing of Independiente striker Sergio Agüero."[3] That same day, Independiente denied the reports, but the player himself later told Argentine television "Although I still don't know what's going to happen to me, this could have been my last goal and my last game for Independiente."[4] On 29 May 2006, it was announced that Atlético Madrid had signed the striker for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around €23 million, breaking the club's previous transfer record.[5][6] In the 2007-08 season, Agüero finished third in scoring in La Liga, behind Dani Güiza and Luís Fabiano, with 20 goals and was runner up in the Trofeo Alfredo di Stéfano award for best player in La Liga.[7]

In the 2008-09 season, Agüero has become a regular goalscorer for Atlético, forming a strong partnership with Uruguayan striker Diego Forlán, also a former Independiente striker. On 1 March 2009, the duo of Diego Forlán and Agüero scored a brace each in a dramatic 4-3 win over league leaders FC Barcelona.
Aguero played 3 years for his former Independiente and scored 23 goals ,not only 12 games like Kosta

Manchester United battle Chelsea in chase for £8m Douglas Costa
    • Premier League champions want Gremio to lower asking price
    • Chelsea, Real Madrid and Villarreal all interested in Costa

Manchester United are trying to salvage a deal for the Brazilian Under-21 international Douglas Costa but face competition from Chelsea as they try to persuade his club, Gremio, to lower their valuation of the midfielder.

United are willing to pay an initial fee of £8m for the 18-year-old including various add-ons depending on his success at Old Trafford, but the deal looked to have faltered when Gremio opened talks by demanding £21m. The Premier League champions have made it clear they consider that to be exorbitant but, after several weeks of negotiations, Gremio have now relaxed their stance and the two clubs are attempting to reach a compromise for the latest player to be tagged in Brazil as "the new Ronaldinho".

An already complex series of negotiations has been further complicated by Chelsea's interest while Real Madrid have also been asked to be kept informed and Villarreal have submitted a bid of £6m plus add-ons. Manchester City had also shown tentative interest but have not followed that up with anything more substantial.

The picture is expected to become clearer next weekend when the influential deal-maker Chris Nathaniel travels to Brazil to try to clarify with Gremio exactly what they will accept before reporting back to the player's admirers. United are considered to be in the most prominent position, with the player favouring a move to England, but Chelsea's interest is genuine and it could become a matter of which club is willing to pay the most.

For a deal to Old Trafford to materialise, Gremio will have to accept that United will not pay what they consider to be over the odds for a player who has only just broken into his club's first team. David Gill, United's chief executive, has already informed Gremio that a deal is impossible at the current price. Chelsea, similarly, are not interested unless the players valuation is slashed to a more realistic mark

This is turning into quite a saga.

If they stick to wanting £20m for him, I wouldn't move for him. It's a massive risk paying that for anyone, never mind an unproven youngster from Brazil who's only played 12(?) first-team games.

Manchester United's hopes of signing Douglas Costa threatened by Chelsea interest

United have reportedly tabled a bid of £8 million for the 18-year-old – dubbed the new Ronaldinho - in a deal that would include significant add-ons depending on his success at Old Trafford. But Brazilian side Gremio, who are experiencing significant financial problems, value their player at £21m.

According to a report in the Guardian, United have made it very clear to Gremio that they will not meet such an inflated fee, and after weeks of talks the South American side are understood to be coming round to the Premier League champions’ way of thinking.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking to wrap up the deal as quickly as possible following suggestions that rivals Chelsea and Real are monitoring Costa’s situation. Spanish side Villareal are also believed to have made an offer of £6m plus add-ons.

Well-renowned deal maker Chris Nathaniel is expected to fly to Brazil on behalf of United later this week to find out what Gremio will accept. The Old Trafford outfit remain the front runners in this particular transfer race largely due to the club’s ever growing Brazilian contingent.

Costa is understood to favour a move to the Premier League in which case it may well become a matter of United offering higher wages than Chelsea.

He'll come to Man Utd. There is already a large Brazilian contigent playing for us and i'm sure they'll convince him to sign for us, should we actually want him
