    Liverpool Sign Joe Cole

"Liverpool have completed the signing of midfielder Joe Cole on a four-year deal following his release by Chelsea."

The 28-year-old England international left Stamford Bridge in June after failing to agree a new contract with the Premier League champions.

Cole was also linked with Arsenal and Tottenham but will undergo a medical at Liverpool in the next 48 hours.

He is likely to be seen as a direct replacement for Yossi Benayoun, who joined Chelsea for £5.5m in July.

    More to follow.

    Fantastic signing by Hodgson.

Why the hell we did not sign him?

That's a real shame. I think he's got a lot to offer still if someone can pick him back up, but hopefully Liverpool can't. I was really hoping we'd sign him too. It could be a great deal imo.

Its interesting too, considering my Liverpool-supporting brother has always said that he hates Cole. I wonder what he has to say about him now

Good signing for them. I mean, they need all the help that they can get and obviously won't be able to spend much. So signing a player like him in a free is great business for them.

@ the Liverpool fans that feel that this will be a catalyst of better things in their future.

I hope you enjoyed winning trophies at Chelsea, Joe. Because I think that might be a career for you as far as wearing medals goes.

I'm actually quite surprised he's joined Liverpool though. I thought that it would definitely be Spurs for him.

With the signings of Jovanović, and Joe Cole, and a fit Torres and Aquilani i think Liverpool can really surprise and break into the top 4.

What makes you think that they'll be fit? If they are it'll be the first time.

I think Aquilani's injury problems are all over for now, it all depends on how fit Torres could be next season.

What the hell? Do you think the difference in wage offered is anything substantial? If anything he'd get paid more at Spurs. He wanted regular football and he's got a better chance of it at Anfield.

Good move by Liverpool and Hodgson, it'll probably prove a good move for all concerned.

MattLawExpress reckon thats Arsenal would only give Joe Cole 80k and two-year deal, Spurs £65k three years and big signing on, Liverpool 90k four years. Says it all.

Thats a shame. Great signing for the scousers, assuming he can stay fit.

My Liverpool supporting mates have just been texting me about this. They seem quite excited. I'm not surprised - he's a very good player and I was disappointed when United ruled themselves out of the race to sign him.

Interesting that he's turned down Champions League football at Arsenal or Spurs to play for Liverpool. Perhaps he just wanted to get away from London.

I heard £4m but whatever it was the huge signing on fee would obviously put some clubs off, perhaps we were one of them.

Some are saying that his signing on fee could be as high as $8 million & an addtional $2 million going to his agent. Then his wages are around $130,000 a week, still think he's a bargain.??
