if its for my daughter i check salt and sugar and e numbers/additives .

we do not use any salt in house or sugar unless in baking as cereal usually tastes ok without .

i also check for actual meat content in hams etc as many are pumped full of water .

and yes i was fed white bread and dripping and ate butter and sugar mix as a kid along with crackling etc

Of course I don't read food labels. Just the logos on the bottle/bag/container etc. Like I care what's in my pop tarts?!? I'm a growing boy and I need my energy.

Lettuce is gross. I can't remember the last time I even ate a vegetable. If I could change my diet I'd be shredded to the extent of Cristiano Ronaldo. I just dropped 40 pounds (3 stone) in like 5 months without changing my diet, and if I could stand eating food that doesn't taste good, I'd probably be a model or something.

I can honestly guarantee I only take in 1200 calories a day max anyway.

110 calories in a can of Red Bull
160 in the Coke I have at lunch
A pizza or some type of chicken for dinner. So between 250-600 at dinner.

I usually have some Pepsi or some soft drink throughout the day as well.

I probably burn off at least 400 just walking around at school.

I do read my food labels before I buy them the first time, after that I rarely bother when buying the same item for 2nd, 3rd, ... times. But I usually read them again before I cook.

As in food labelling, the most important thing for me is their expire dates. Canned food are OK, as a lot of time their expire date will be in another 2-3 years. But I will make sure that the can is in good condition, no dent or any slight damage, as it will allow the growth of the microbes and let the oxygen react with the can.

There are so many food scandals happening in China that are fatal. It is ridiculous. There is zero quality inspections there and corruption is rife, so a lot of products don't get inspected. i'm not sure if you have heard about it in Europe, but there was a big milk contamination and everything from oreos to Magnum ice cream is effected.

So the one thing I make sure not to do is buy food stuff from China.

I think there's a misunderstanding here. As far as I know, the melamine in Chinese milk scandal was there because some people wanted to make a fake result of the protein test. As melamine has high Nitrogen content, and the rapid milk test usually test the Nitrogen content to represents protein (not the protein, because it's time consuming). So there's a quality inspection there but unfortunately there's no chemical safety.

btw, am not chinese.
