9/11 instantly came to mind as soon as I read the thread title. I do not think I have ever spent so much time watching the news on the day and the following weeks. I will never forget the images of the planes flying into the north and south tower. I even still talk about it occasionally with my mates several years on.

Princess Diana dying was a major event for me. It happened 4 days after my birthday. I was on holiday celebrating my birth and then all of a sudden I was mourning the death of a major figurehead of our country. The outpouring of grief in this country was incredible. I remember watching the funeral procession and actually listening to an Elton John song - neither of which are things I like to do on a regular basis.
