United Chief Executive David Gill has confirmed the popular opinion that Carlos Tevez went to Manchester City for a bigger salary. He also questioned whether Tevez understood what it was like to play in a big squad.
Anybody who reads my articles will know how I feel about Tevez. I’ve said time and time again that he was all about the money. That is the only explanation for leaving one of the biggest clubs in the world and signing for a team like City. He was offered a deal that would have made him one of the top earners at the club and he turned it down because our massive neighbours offered him a lot more than we did.
“There were clearly issues with Carlos. Whether he couldn’t grasp what being a member of a squad was I don’t know. But he has clearly gone for more money than we were paying him and economically his advisers possibly felt it was better for him to move on,” Gill is quoted as saying in the M.E.N.
Gill’s comments come a week after Sir Alex revealed that he thought Tevez was not worth £25M, but bowed to fan pressure and offered the previously agreed fee to sign the headless chicken.
