Euro 2012 Odds: Rooney Set To Inspire England To Victory

England play their final Group D match on Tuesday in the knowledge that only a draw is required to finish above Ukraine and to progress to the knockout rounds. There is still a good chance that England can finish above France though judging by the England Euro 2012 Odds so England fans won’t be settling for a draw, France are only above England on goal difference and the winners of Group D will have the advantage of avoiding Spain in the Quarter Finals.

England are a surprisingly big price to beat Ukraine, just as they were against Sweden, the England v Ukraine Odds have England available at 5/4 at the time of writing and that could be very generous considering that France were able to beat Ukraine 2-0 last week. A draw is available at 12/5 but that seems much less likely than an England win based on the past meetings between these two countries, they have met four times in all competitions and three of those matches have gone the way of England, although Ukraine did win the most recent meeting, in which they had home advantage, when beating England 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in 2009.

That 1-0 scoreline could be the most likely winning scoreline should Ukraine grab a win and knock England out, the bookies make that the shortest priced winning outcome for Ukraine in the correct score market at 11/1. Ukraine are priced up at 11/4 just to win the match. Whichever way this goes it seems 1-0 at half time seems the most likely result, all four of the games between England and Ukraine have been 1-0 at half time to the team that has gone on to win the match and you can get 7/2 on England taking a 1-0 lead into the interval whilst Ukraine are 9/2 to be winning 1-0 after 45 minutes. With the half time winners always going on to win the match when the sides meet there could also be some value in the half time/full time odds with England/England available at 5/2 and Ukraine/Ukraine priced up at 11/2 at the time of writing.

Wayne Rooney makes his return to the England side in this match following his two match ban and that could see a much more impressive performance from England, anyone who fancies them to go close to winning Euro 2012 should look at taking the 12/1 before this match begins. Rooney could prove a decent investment in the goalscoring markets for this match, he is 11/2 to open the scoring against Ukraine, 13/8 to score at any point in the match and a potentially generous 50/1 to help himself to a hat trick in this match. Danny Welbeck could retain his place and partner Wayne Rooney in attack and Welbeck is the second favourite behind Wayne Rooney in the goalscorer odds, Welbeck can be backed at 15/2 to score first and 23/10 to score first whilst Ashley Young is also a contender, he has been disappointing so far at Euro 2012 but Rooney can often bring about the best in Young so perhaps the winger is the value here at 9/1 to open the scoring and 10/3 to score anytime in the match against Ukraine.
