In what will come as a surprise to many United fans, Sir Alex has indicated that we may see Cristiano Ronaldo back at Old Trafford one day in the future.
He left this Summer to join Real Madrid for £80M, after spending 6 trophy laden years at United. It would be unprecedented if he were to return.
"His best is yet to come because he is just 24," Ferguson said. "I will be very proud when I see [him at his best] because we had a part to play in it. He came to the right club at the right part of his career. He could have gone to Real Madrid or Barcelona as a boy but he came to the right club and he appreciates that. And he may come back, you never know," Sir Alex was quoted as saying in The guardian.
"I don't see it happening if things go wrong at Real Madrid necessarily, but he loved Manchester United so it may happen. He loved the club. If you look at the six years he had with us, he never missed training and he was never injured. He always played. He was fantastic.
"It wasn't easy to see him leave. I had a good chat with the boy about it but he had made up his mind. Last year he was begging me to let him go but this year it was a sensible discussion."
Fergie has ever allowed a player to return to Old Trafford after over two decades in charge at United. Great players like Van Nistelrooy have left the club in the past, but the manager has never admitted that a player could return after seeking pastures new.
I suppose it shouldn't come as a great shock. He was a fantastic player for us and helped us win many trophies during his time here. I for one would be delighted to see him return one day. Everything he has said in the press since finalizing his transfer has been positive. He's praised the manager the club and the fans, so there's no reason why he couldn't make a spectacular come back to the United ranks at some point in the future.
What do you think? Would you take Ronaldo back?
