About Michael Carrick

Bio:

Michael Carrick signed for United from Tottenham in July 2006, for a fee of £18.6m, taking the number 16 shirt previously occupied by Roy Keane. Since then, he has cemented his place in the midfield of a team that has won four Premier League trophies, the Champions League, two League Cups, four Community Shields and a Club World Cup during that time.

A cultured central midfielder known for his positioning and passing ability, Carrick started out as a centre forward at schoolboy level, before moving into midfield at West Ham, where he twice won their young player of the year award. Carrick remained with West Ham when they were relegated, but when they failed to acheive promotion he moved to White Hart Lane, spending two seasons there before his eventual transfer to United.
