After signing for Manchester United in the 2005/2006 season, he has continued to impressed and has risen through the ranks at United, establishing himself as a member of the first team squad. After previously making two appearances for the first team in the League Cup, Welbeck shot to fame after coming on as a substitute for Park Ji Sung against Stoke in September 2008, to score a 30 yard screamer into the Stretford end. In the same season he also scored in matches in the League Cup and FA Cup.
He has established himself as a favourite among United fans, many of whom consider him to be the most exciting local talent to come through the academy since the likes of Paul Scholes. Sir Alex Ferguson has also tipped him to become a big player, and even suggested he could be a part of England’s 2010 World Cup squad.
On the international front, Danny made his debut for the England U-16s aged 14 in 2005, and has since gone on to make two substitute appearances for the England U21s, and was in the squad for the 2009 U21 European Championships but was ruled out through an unfortunate injury. - Loading...
