This is only an Adrian Durham idea (i.e a flight of fancy) - but the more I think of it, it might just make sense.

Apparently the signs are Frank Lampard is increasingly unhappy with his diminishing role at Chelsea and may be looking to leave (possibly even in January)

If he's looking to stay in England, then he'd want a top club - I don't think he'd be motivated by money and I think he's still best mates with Rio. That would put us as strong contenders.

At his age, he wouldn't be the longterm solution - but he'd be EXACTLY the player we need at the moment, and would allow Sir Alex time to line up the next longterm solution.

I don't think it will happen - but I can see the logic in suggesting the possibility.

Won't happen and he's not what we need. Him and Rooney would be treading on each other's toes.

Not enough to his all-round play....
Gives us one thing we don't really have, but that's it...

Highly doubtful but he's a very effective player, I'd take him.

More than likely bs, and extremely unlikely to happen, even if it isn't - however, if we had the chance I'd more than welcome him tbh.

I'm hoping that we sign a Lampard-type player, which will allow Rooney to play as an out-and-out striker. Two birds with the one stone. Not sure I'd want to see Lampard in a United shirt though.

I'd be very happy with signing Lampard. I think he's consistently been one of the very best central midfielders in Europe for a good 6 or 7 years now.

No doubt he's a little past his best, due to age, but he is better than any of our current central players. He has a great all-round game and scores goals too, which is also something we lack from the centre.

Also he's never been one of those rival players I've either disliked or hated. I've always had the utmost respect for Lampard. Would be a quality short term signing and would sort our problem area out for a good 2 years imo.

Didn't he come out only yesterday and say that he's happy where he is and is staying put?

I'd definitely be up for signing him. But who would play alongside him? If we play Jones or Fletcher/Anderson it will leave us exposed. And if we play him with Carrick, our midfield will feel 'lethargic' and of a low energy. Lampard is in no age to be running and covering up, and we all know how Carrick is really is.

Lampard's best years came while playing in a very strict and direct team with wingers who do a lot of defensive work. It would work if we play a midfield of Park-Carrick-Lampard-Valencia, but if we play the likes of Young and Nani, it will leave us exposed.

If you watch our match against Chelsea this season, you'll notice how faster and quicker they were when he was taken off. But despite all that, I'd still have him here.

I'd be up for Essien too.

Love it to happen, but will never happen, Chelsea to United is not likely.

As others have said, there's no chance of this happening.

However, even if it was a realistic transfer, I wouldn't sign him tbh. He's not getting any younger, age is and will catch up with him so I'd rather focus on signing someone who will offer us more and for longer. And I'd rather sign a defensive midfielder.

I'd take a short term loan. Nothing else.

I've just been reading about this link, and I don't believe it at all. I don't think we'll be looking for him, and I doubt he'd want to come.

I'd much rather spend money on a longer-term option anyway, especially a defensive midfielder, as I said earlier in the thread.

tbh if they want to change regime, I'd take him if this was anywhere near viable (as I said up there) - which it isn't. Him, and a young defensive mid would see us right.
