Probably be the wise thing to do with Fletcher's condition.

When will the penny drop with Anderson, when will he understand that he needs to be an athlete to be the awesome player he was born to be.

As much as I want to trim the squad and I bang on about it more than most, the thought of selling him him is painful, its like giving away your lottery ticket before the draw. We'll all be gutted if he does well somewhere else.

This is something I'm in two minds about. On the one hand, he hasn't really been a success for us. At the beginning of his career here, he looked really good and looked like he would be a great signing and really push on to be a great player for us. He's also shown some positives in spells for us.

But, he's been mostly poor for us and hasn't managed to find any consistency at all. More worryingly, his attitude doesn't seem to be as it should be, obviously his lifestyle is a problem and he doesn't look like someone who's willing to put the work in to improve and try to force his way into the team. And, we've said for a few years running now "this could be his breakthrough year, lets give him another season etc" so how many chances is he going to get?

However, I don't think we've helped considering the way we've tried to make him do different roles etc, and the fact that he's been in and out of the team regularly. And, I don't see us getting much for him so it might not be worth letting him go. It would probably be better to keep him and take the risk.

So, after this indecisive post I'd probably say if we get a good offer sell him, otherwise keep him and take the risk. :p

this a top football club not a holiday camp, no matter how big a name or how well liked, if a player is not willing to put in the graft to be, or stay in top condition, then get rid of, this team needs players who perform in real time, not on memories. as we have seen, sentiment does not often work. I want this team to get back to winning ways the second the season kicks off, no more part time players freeloaders or passengers, time for the manager to get ruthless and play a team worthy of Manchester Uniteds reputation and the fans expectations, we have some catching up to do.

Good post. Spot on. Anderson came into the side - he had great potential and unfortunately he has never fulfilled it.

Its a shame but its a tale that has been told a thousand times in football and will be told a thousand times more.

This whole thread should give people pause for thought - no one can even agree where the lad is best suited to play. Some ar suggesting he play in the hole (never going to happen at United) others are saying a deep lying attacking midfielder and still others say he's a box to box midfielder. He's been at the club 5 years and still no one has a clue where this guy's best position is.

The constant references to Gremio & Porto are ridiculous. Thats in the past. He needed to make strides from that early form/potential and he hasnt done it. At this stage I doubt he ever will. He'll go on to be a fairly average European player somewhere and most likely that will be that.

I'm not sure about Anderson finding there wont be a starting place for him - I dont think theres one there now.Certainly not now we have added Kagawa and Powell (although Powell may not feature for some time)

Personally if a good offer came in I'd shift him on. Theres no real harm in letting his contract run out and living in hope unless he gets in the way of other players who might actually live up to there potential.

Use him as a "money off" coupon if we sold him to Inter?

the only thing Ando do at united, is holding the nice #8 shirt!
time to change that, it would be nice to see the 8 shirt out on the pitch worn by someone who can get a pass to the right adress

I like Anderson. I would like him to stay for another season but I think he'll leave this summer if the right offer was to come.

Im tired of these ' Ill wait for Fletch ' f**king statements...
He has been out for almost 2 years, he is still struggling and
you cant tell me that he'll come back and be the same player. The
virus will have taken its toll and he will be older. His Engine played
a huge part in his play, it will not be the same, and we cant rely on a what if
to mount a continuous serious title challenge.

On to Anderson, i've always been supportive, but i dont know anymore, we
could sell and push for a far greater player, like M'vila or Martinez.

I've said before, I don't think some people realise Fletcher's condition is liable to flare up again and will have to be managed for the rest of his life. It's not a virus that he will get over, I honestly don't see him coming back - which is a shame because he'd finally rammed the critics' words (mine too) down our throats and was a very good player.

He'll at least never be what he once was, so I think we ought to plan as if he won't be back, and if he is - well that's a bonus.

As for Anderson, there was a discussion in another thread

I agree. I can't see Fletch ever being the player he was on a consistent basis, even if he does come back. I think we should plan for the future without considering him as part of the equation. That way, nobody is expecting too much of him. If he does come back and is able to contribute then it'll be a bonus. That said, I don't think that selling Anderson should be dependent on Fletcher's future or not. Ando has shown that he is unreliably in terms of fitness, performance and keeping himself in good physical shape. I'd see more value in giving Ryan Tunnicliffe a chance in the first team squad than Ando at this point. He's had his chance. He's failed. Time to get rid.

I of the opinion that now more than ever we need a stronger, leaner ,more efficient squad to survive the onslaught from the sugardaddy powered club. Keeping Anderson on £70000/week with his injury ,consistency and professional commitment issues is not part and parcel of the above. We need to cut our losses and move on to a more dedicated athlete like Strootman/M'villa to complete our midfield. Money aside Anderson is eating up a valuable squad place and him staying will impact negatively on our attempts to compete on various fronts.
On Fletcher, even though its clear as daylight that he will never return to be the player he was the club will do all that is possible to or appear to be standing by him to maintain its image as an employer that stands by you through thick and thin. That is admirable but we shouldn't neglect strengthening the engine room on his account, doing so is very careless.

Anderson can be a top cm with the attributes he has, but he has been too inconsistant. I am a big fan of ando, hes been really unlucky though. It does not help he has missed a lot of pre seasons which has hindered him as he is playing catch up with the rest of the squad. First year he didnt have a pre season due to the fact he was playing in the olympics but did great. his third season he looked sharp in pre season, until a argument with fergie left him out of the team for a while until his return playing out on the left agaisnt burnley. he then was playing catch up again. Then got a bad knee injury and missed the next pre season... (see where im going with this?) he is then playing catch up again. fast forward to the start of last season and looked brilliant in pre season and started alongside clevz they both got injured and anderson is again playing catch up! he has another chance of pre season and i hope he proves his doubters wrong!
